Hi, I need some advice please. The hitch on my sprite alpine 78 is unusable, had several people look at it. My next option is to fit a new hitch. Has anyone done this?
I can't find one that fits exactly on the hitch frame. The closest I can find is an alko 90s.It would mean drilling 2 new holes. Is that ok? Is it just a case of attaching the brake rods? Someone is going to do it for me. Thanks
I used to work on Early sprite caravans in the early eighties, they used their own chassis. The hitch on these caravans was cream in colour and the hitch sliding tube was not as simple as other types and had friction linings inside and were quite troublesome back then. Towsure used to do a suitable hitch. The caravan chassis on that model was metal not aluminium so altering the holes slightly shouldn’t be so much of a concern. It is just a case of getting the brake rod to fit as on the overrun this pulls on the brake. Just make sure brakes are adjusted correctly and not too tight and that the brake linkage pull off springs located in front of each wheel are in good condition and doing the job. These had a tendency to corrode become weak or fall off causing the brakes to overheat.
Towsure and Indespension, both have hydraulic couplings available, you would probably find it more useful to speak to Indespension as they specialise in trailers and trailer parts
