Hi , we have been down our caravan for the 1st time this weekend , everything seemed fine until today after shopping for tonights cider the daughter put the bottle in the fridge and for the life of me i can not open the fridge , its 1 of them sliding lockable latches and the caravan is a coachman amara 2004 , any ideas please many thanks Graham .
Im not sure which type you have, but ours you have to squeeze the green button in sideways (Sort of pinch it action) to release the grey upright peg type one that locks down the fridge door to stop it opening whilst traveling if that makes sence lol

Sounds like the Electrolux/Dometic fridge. We had the same problem on a previous van. I think you will find that part of the sliding catch has broken off and needs replacing. I can't for the life of remember how we got the old catch off.
You should always leave the fridge door ajar when in storage to allow air flow. Our sliding catch has a setting for locking the door ajar to avoid mould and the seals sticking, this might be all the problem is. See if the door moves a little and is streaching the seal, good luck.
We have an Amara 2004 and occasionally our lock fails but fortunately unlocked. The part that slides will prise out and you should then get to see the silver part that locks the door. move this to one side and you should be able to get in. The should be a small plastic tag on the bit that slides to engage on the silver lock so make sure this is still on before reassembly. Most dealers have or can get spares.
Hi, you are replying to a thread that is 13 years old! When you are new to the forum it is easy to miss that. When replying to a post, always check the date in the top right.
Problem is still there.
I just bought a caravan yesterday and locked the fridge to bring it home and couldn't get it open again.
No-one actually said they had a "fix".
I have since dismantled the thing and there is a small rubber spring that would appear to go hard with age.

That's not the same type of fridge lock though that the OP was referring to many years back which is a Dometic make with a front top sliding lock and no spring in the device at all so unfortunately not relevant regarding a fix.
I am sorry to be picky but I found this (all be it ancient) by searching for locked fridge door.
I seem to remember that there were several different fridges discussed.
None seemed to address my issue so I thought to help anyone who ended up on this ancient thread I would add what I had found.
I didn't realise it was rigidly only relevant to the original question.
I didn't ask about that particular fridge but still ended up being directed here.
Do you want me to remove my reply ?

If your reply - albeit a decade or so late, helps someone today, i cant personally see owt wrong with it. It seems theres at least 2 different fixes now for locked fridge doors.
