We have recently sited a caravan with 6amp hookup. We are particular about only using one electric appliance at a time and had no problems until our neighbouring caravan on the same hookup post arrived. We have noticed he has a splitter at the hookup point and has full size fridge freezer, electric fan, kettle etc, . Since his arrival our electric has been tripping quite regularly often without using any appliance other than the water being on, could their splitter be the reason. Odd thing is their electric doesn't always trip as well.
Many sites don’t allow splitters. I’d check with the site manager.
I know little about electrics but I don’t use two appliances that create heat at the same time eg toaster & kettle.
Each hookup should have separate sockets for each pitch, your neighbours usage shouldn't affect yours.
You don't say what is tripping is it the RCD or MCB, in the caravan or at the hookup post?

Report that yours is tripping and what little you have on it. Then it is up to the site maintenance to sort the problem and if it is the next caravan causing the problem it is then up to them to have a word with them, and have not come from you to cause any bad feeling.

Thanks for the reply. Apologies for my ignorance, this is all new to us, we have camped for years but never with EHU. The hook up is at a post with an electric box towards the top. There is only one box and this has 2 green switches in it. We have a single hook up attached and the caravan behind has a splitter with one lead going to the caravan and the other into their awning where we can see they have a full size fridge freezer, amongst other small appliances. Every time our electric has tripped the one green button in the box is in the down position and is reset by pushing up. We have only once seen them resetting their switch but then they are closer to the hook up so may be doing it before we get there. We have only ever had the one thing running at a time other than the caravan fridge which is always on. If we put the heating on we run it on 1KW and do not use anything else whilst it is on. We have a gas kettle, a small TV, and I will use a hairdryer in the mornings but make sure everything else is off. There is always power to the microwave so the clock part is illuminated, should I be switching this off as well. We charge our phones with a 12V charger. We havent got any other electric items other than the lights. It is going to be hard if we cannot run a TV when the heating is on in the colder months, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

thank you, we have been vigilant about only using one appliance at a time, the only thing that is on constant is the caravan fridge
To be honest, a 6A hookup like your arrangemnt is pretty mean nowadays.
I would doubt that your mains fridge heater element will draw that much current even if it was running constantly, probably 200-250 watts.

and i bet they are charging you around £2000 for the year ? very very stingey only haviing 6amps its barely enough to run the caravan, wait until you have to start putting heating on because then you wont be watching tv!
your water heater will be about 700 watts ,almost 3 amps, that will be on a thermostat ,and will keep cycling on and off , with your fridge , battery charger also running , theres hardly anything left to run owt else. i suggest , turning the water heater off, and use the gas kettle for dooing the pots, and just put the water heater on when needing the shower
