I am thinking of having a new motor mover. The one I have at present is manual lever to engage it to the tyre. It is getting to be hard work as I get older. I am thinking about the sort that engages with a remote control, but heard a few years ago that they could be problematic. Does anyone know about these please?

I changed to automatic many years ago for similar reasons. I haven't had any issues or problems with mine apart from remembering to change the control handset battery I now have spare batteries in the caravan and at home. I now change that battery every year.

Had Powrtouch moovers for years, but now in my 80s when buying new caravan last year had a Powrtouch automatic fitted as this is intended to last out our caravanning days. Find it very good, I only have to remember each time to press the button to move it off the tyre before switching off isolator. I have always made a habit of fitting new battery in handset in January each year using Duracell which then lasts the whole year, as ours does get used a lot for 10 months of the year.

I use a 18" knuckle bar with a 16 point socket for a actuation leaver, plus its handy for wheel changes.

We had the auto engage on two caravans and our current Powertouch one is over 6 years old. No issue.

As with all the other replies on this topic, I have to agree, the automatic is well worth the extra money. My only problem is with the remote, the battery is a bad fit and I hav had to add some packing at the bottom of it to make sure it maintains contact. Having solved that problem, it is so much easier than manual operation.

I had a new auto engage Powrtouch 'Evolution' motor mover fitted 8 years ago when I purchased my second hand caravan from a dealer. I have never encountered any problems at all but they do need lubricating annually to ensure free movement of the sliding mechanism which is simple enough to do. However, it has been known for some to have problems with the auto engage mover but that's usually down to the fact that the owner doesn't use the mover frequently enough which the mover will then likely seize up due to lack of operation. If the auto engage mover is maintained as required it should serve it's purpose for many future years which furthermore, if I was to change my caravan at any time I wouldn't hesitate having the Powrtouch 'Evolution' fitted again due to it's reliability and ease of use.

It's strange, but rarely do I see anyone in the UK with the auto version but go to Europe and you will hardly(if ever) see a manual version.

We have a manual engage power touch, I always use the torque wrench to engage and disengage it as it is a lot easier (longer handle), it also saves carrying yet another handle
