So, I have an old Elddis caravan (22 years old). The battery light on the van keeps telling me that the battery is dead when not on hook up. The battery is good, tested with two multimeters. Spend 10 days on EHU all working, left with a full battery. Got home, parked up, 23hrs later, the van tells me the battery is dead.....nothing not enough to run the radio?
Any ideas? Where do I start? It has just always worked before.
Using a multimeter will tell you the surface charge of the battery, to make sure take it to halfords etc for a proper test where they'll use a discharge type drop tester.
If that say its ok then check all connections

It's true, they don't last forever, but mine is still good after 6 years. I'd suspect something within the caravan, personally, especially if the battery voltage is fine with a multi-meter. One problem I had with my Elddis caravan was down to the battery fuse. It hadn't blown, but the fuse-holder was badly corroded internally. I cut it out and replaced it with a 12 volt DC circuit breaker.

When it's dead is the caravan hooked up to the car?
Hooked to car engine running everything in van is isolated except fridge running from car and battery charging from car.
Hooked to car engine NOT running everything in van in van runs from car battery except fridge running from car and battery charging from car.
It must be unplugged from car for everything to work from van system.
Older Elddis caravans (mine's 32 years old) don't have the relay to enable that. Mine has a switch on the panel that you have to change over if you want to run anything in the caravan from the car. With the switch set to "caravan" everything in the caravan runs from the leisure battery, apart from the fridge, so it doesn't matter if the car is connected or not.
The switch also has a centre "off" position, and in that position everything in the caravan is dead.
