Just come back from looking at caravans, we fancy the lunar solaris with the island bed, we looked at a bailey with the same lay out, but the good lady didn't like the look of it. Could any body tell me if i am making a good choice of van and the dealers we went to are Fry's near beverley, Has any one dealt with them before.

We had the Lunar Lexon 640 with the island bed, but like most Lunars had a tinge of the damp (ours was a 2002 we part-ex last year).  I'm sure that Swift group do a few in their range with island bed - Swift and Abbey,  so is the Bailey Louisiana - but your wife wasnt keen on Baileys.   I must say I was quite tempted with the new Spectrum 545, it has twin beds instead of the fixed double.

Hi I have not bought anything from Fry's as we are in the South-East but about a month ago we bought the Lunar Solaris 3 from South-East Caravans. This has the fixed island bed.

We have used it a couple of times and am really pleased with it. The thing we liked is the separate shower cubicle and separate toilet. We felt it was a much better layout than the having to walk through the shower to get to the toilet.

I don't think you will be disappointed. Your wife has good taste.

We have the twin axle version, a 2004 Lexon 640, of the Solaris and if we downgraded we would definitely go for the Solaris.  Love the island bed.  No issues with damp at all.

I am looking at a new lunar but have always had elddis. I was concerned to read above the comment like most lunars a tinge of damp! Is there a problem with them?!

The Caravan Club did a survey in 2002 of quality and reliability of Caravans and specifically the average rate of water ingress ( damp). They have done further surveys but this year specifically broke down damp rather than general quality and reliability of Caravans.

Here is the results of average water ingress :

Swift group 9%

Abi 11%

Bailey 11%

Lunar 12%

Explorer group 16%

Fleetwood 19%

So in that year Lunar are in the middle for water ingress , so not the worst.

Tony,

Did you know that Robinsons at Worksop do Lunar as well as their own Ultimas (made by Lunar).  Thought they would be more local for you.  We were impressed by them when we went! (we are in Doncaster too)

Are you having a motor mover fitted as I would certainly recommend it.  On our wish list is an additonal 14 litre hot water boiler to work in series with the current boiler.  means that two people can shower right after one another.  Cost about £400 fitted and I think worth every penny.  Are you having an L shape lounge or bunks in the front?

I would recommend a motor mover too. We had our motor mover thrown in when we bought the van. It's fantastic!

Hi all, this is my first post.I have just started caravaning again after many years and when it came to choosing the van it had to be a Lunar. I am a cabinet maker by trade and so when i looked at potential caravans the quality of the furniture and finish of all the vans probably got over scrutinised. The quality within the Zenith far exceeded any of the other vans we looked at and it weighed much less too.

We have used it twice so far and it just gets better every time!

Hi Tony

I don't know about the Lunar, we ordered a Sterling at the weekend from Fry's. If their pre sales service is anything to go by we should be ok.

When we were buying our last caravan (which we eventually bought off Ebay) Fry's were the only dealer to follow up with a px price and a courtesy call. Similarly at the Lawns show the salesman recognised me (caravan dealers nightmare) and took the time to show us round, even though I told him we weren't buying.

I know its a salesmans job, to do this, but it rarely happens nowadays. We were interested in a new car recently and the Mitsubishi and Kia dealers lost out to Jeep, simply because they didn't follow up.

The staff at Fry's seem genuinely freindly, either that or they are very well trained. We'll see.

Cheers

Paul

We are able to store our van down our driveway so haven't a clue how much it costs to put the van into storage but I am sure someone on here will know.

I already have a motor mover on the old van, they are swapping it for me i wouldn,t give that up its a god send no more pulling and tugging. They do seem friendly at Fry's willing and helpful thats why i asked if any one had dealings with them, sometimes sales people are like that to get a sale but the person i dealt with seemed genuine enough. I see that the van is fitted with an attachment for a wheel alko lock are they as good as they look easy to fit etc.
