I am considering purchasing a remote caravan mover and wonder if anyone could give me any advice. I am relatively new to caravanning. I have a 24’ single axle Swift Challenger caravan and I am finding manoeuvring the caravan single handed into confined spaces quite difficult, both when positioning the van on sites and when parking at home. There appear to be two types on the market. One permanently fixed to the underside of the caravan as per the Powrtouch remote control caravan mover, and one which attaches to the jockey wheel of the van, as per the Powrhitch or the Mr Shifter. The prices for the 2 types appear to be fairly similar. Can anyone please advise me of the advantages and/ or disadvantages, or pro’s and con’s of each type? I presume that the main benefit of the one fixed to the caravan is that you don’t have to keep taking it on and off the van, and with the powrhitch/ Mr Shifter type, you can easily retain it if you ever sell the van, but that it is more bulky to take with you when you are using the van, but are there any other pro’s and con’s that I should be aware of, in relation to the two types? And should I buy new, or would I be safe to buy second hand on e-bay for example?

Hi Mike,
So much has been written about movers, I would be in danger of going over old ground. Do a search and you will find loads of info. For my part, I have fixed Reich movers which are terrific. They add about 35-40kg to the weight of the van, but the weight is cancelled out by the total lack of stress getting the can on and off the drive, onto the exact point I want it on site, and the abilities, to a degree, to level the van without too much stress. before changing to the 4x4 recently, I was able to 'drive' the van off waterlogged grass fields, where my Mondy would have failed at the first hurdle. My personal thoughts are that the fixed movers outweigh the hitchdrive types in terms of convenience and performance, and are well worth the expense. Mine were fitted new, but there are some good used movers out there too!

Hi Mike
Dont worry about investing in a fitted mover.
6 weeks ago we bought an Enduro (on wizards recommendation) My OH fitted it himself What a great piece of kit. Now we have bought a new van. So what about the mover. Dead easy the dealership is transferring it onto the new van FOC. Now if we had bought another make we might have had a problem because the new van is much heavier than the old one but the Enduro will move anything up to 1800kgs. So no problem their either.
Get one. honestly you will not regret it.
