Hi, my father in law is a police officer and whilst it is illegal for people is it perfectly legal for an animal to travel inside the van- tho personally not what i would choose to do.
kind regards

Im not aware of any specific laws, but you could be be breaking the general law about putting an animal at risk. My daughter is involved with animal welfare and I will ask her and post again later

It's only the same as towing a trailer full of sheep or a horsebox.
But I wouldn't want to put my dogs through the ordeal of a journey in a caravan. Bear in mind that a trailer swings about and bumps around a lot more than the car does - It could stress the dog out and cause him to damage the interior of the caravan.

Going to Yarmouth a few weeks ago we passed a caravan on the opposite carriageway that had been hit by something. The entire rear offside corner of rhe caravan was missing. I dread to think of the consequences had there been an animal in the caravan.

Not something i would be doing i am afraid.
You took the words right out of my mouth Bill. If the worst happened and there was an accident I dread to think about what would happen to the dog - DON'T DO IT!!

I wouldn't do it unless the cage could be secured and unable to shift if you had a bump (god forbid) I prefer to have my dog in the car with a proper saftey harness fitted to protect her.

I would if I were you but get an estate car but don't just get a hatch back.
I travel around with my job and the ammount of people I follow who carry sometimes two big dogs in the back of a hatch back, it really annoys me because they cant turn around poor things and I dread to picture the scene if anyone ran into the back of them.
it will be an estate then i can get rid of the trailer as well been looking at mondeo st 24 love them mine is 1 but its a saloon with a big 2.5 v6 throber under the bonnet u must think im mad with price of petrol but i just love em
