You dont need to pay out for that if its only for occassional use. just use a cheap voltage tester & a wiring diagram of 12n/12s sockets, just google for a diagram. to test the sockets put the -pin of voltage tester on the socket earth & touch the +pin on each socket contact to check its live at the correct time, ie 12n lights on, brake lights on, indicators on, 12s fridge power on/leisure battery charge on, only with engine running.

Hi ,I have seen a tester on ebay that does the N + S sockets but cant find it at the moment, have a search on ebay I remember that the chap who sells them invented it himself and that it works by coloured led,s, I will have another look tonight and see if I can find it for you.

There is only reversing light, battery charging (not all vans or 12S sockets) and fridge power.
First ensure fridge is switched off.
Start engine then connect 12S. Engine revs should dip briefly as extra load of battery charging is applied. Then switch on fridge, if green light is; on fridge power OK. Finally check reverse lights along with other lighting checks.
Mugs with money, just do as MartyM says, and a hell of a lot cheaper.

That looks interesting but the 12N one that Towsure sells and the 12S one I have made for myself have a length of cable so that you can see the leds etc from the driving seat which has to be more convenient if on your own
I wonder if anyone markets the 12S with a longer lead
£18.26 £21.45 inc VAT
Towbar N-Type Wiring Tester T444 12 volt. For testing caravan/trailer lighting circuit on towing vehicle. N-type plug connects to 7-pin towing socket (or 13-pin with suitable adaptor), whilst long lead extends to drivers door for ease of use.
Simply turn on each light, the tester gives visual confirmation via LEDs of correct operation
I don't know if it is still there but Lowdham Leisure at Guntorpe, Nottingham, used to have a test rig on their car park. All you had to do was reverse up to it, plug in the 12n & 12s cables, get in the car and switch on the lights etc., whilst at the same time looking in you mirror to see an illuminated display which showed what was working and what was not.

Our tourer days are over and we have moved on to a Hobby Motorhome
MartyM is right, you can use a multi-meter, but there are many people out here, who will find bending down, and on their knee's very uncomfortable and painful. That's why I purchased both Items from Emoplugs, which give's a good idea what the problem is without all the crawling on hand's and knee's, Dave is a very helpful and knowledgeable Guy, And as JohnG has done you can make up a link to use Emo tester on N-12
