I think you'll find it folded following the takeover of Mendip Caravans by Discover and the subsequent demise of the Magnum brand.

tracked them down just glad that we took a step back before joining them apparently the old treasurer has taken over as chairman which in it self seems to have put the final nail in the coffin 2008 committee gave all its members £36 and free fees for 2009 however new committee have decided to pay only a few members whilst charging £30 for a site costing £13 and being forced with the threat of legal action by at least 10 members the clubis not for us will stick with cc you know where you are dont take my word for it see the web site old committee as stopped them from using as they have neglected to pay

Why would you want to join the Magnum owners club when you own a Bailey?

As the ex vice Chairman of the Magnum caravan and camping club please allow me to add a few facts to your short "debate".

Originally begun as the Magnum owners club, the club was renamed following the Discovery takeover of Mendip caravans. This renaming allowed owners of all makes of caravans, motorhomes and tents to join the club.

In August/September of 2008 the four man committee declded that with dwindling membership numbers  the way forward for the club was to become an email friends group [i.e no organised meets would be "calendered, but members would simply let each other know where they were going and members would then meet up with each other and book the sites thereselves]. This would obviously negate the need for a formal club structure. It was therefore decided to reduce the club funds and it was decided each member would be given £36 to purchase CC membership so we could take advantage of the quality sites the club runs and also allow members to receive the other benefits of CC membership.

Subsequently the treasurer disagreed with the other three members of the committee and a "split" occurred. Refunds were issued to the membership although the "three" are not certain if all members received the £36. It was further declded no 2009 membership fee would be charged.

An AGM was held in Cheltenham in November and the Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary tendered there resignations. A new committee was formed but unrest has continued for quite sometime due to a refund for an overpayment for a rally in Oxford and financial misuse of the website etc etc.and the decision taken to charge a membership fee.

The new committee continue to run the club and the MAGNUM FRIENDS GROUP of which I am a member has been formed and holds its first meet at Bristol Baltic Wharf CC Site in early March.

I hope the above clarifies what has been discussed above.

Dave

I didn't know there was a Bailey owners club. Thanks, I'll have a look when I am an owner in a few weeks time.

As the former Secretary of the Magnum Caravan and Camping Club I would like to confirm the entry made by Dave (davebelcanto)  - The committee met on numerous occasions to discuss the future of the club following the loss of "Magnum" as a brand identity, and it was decided that the best way to keep the membership together, and allow the group to flourish, was to scrap the formal structure and membership fees in favour of an informal email group which would be free of subscription charges and any heirarchy. As a result the Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Secretary have formed the email group and we already have many dates listed for 2009 - unfortunately the former Treasurer decided against the logic of a free group, and has gathered a group of close friends to persist with the old club.

Anyone wishing to join our new "free" group, should contact me with their email address and they can then be included in future mailings - just email your details to me at: magnumfriends at hotmail.co.uk

The Magnum Friends group works on the basis of shared information on meet locations, and members of the group make their own arrangements with the site so that they can select hookups, grass/hardstanding pitches, or fully serviced pitches - we believe that this offers each member a choice of facility rather than being forced to pitch somewhere that is not suitable for their particular unit or circumstances. This means that the club does not get involved in any financial dealings
