As the ex vice Chairman of the Magnum caravan and camping club please allow me to add a few facts to your short "debate".
Originally begun as the Magnum owners club, the club was renamed following the Discovery takeover of Mendip caravans. This renaming allowed owners of all makes of caravans, motorhomes and tents to join the club.
In August/September of 2008 the four man committee declded that with dwindling membership numbers the way forward for the club was to become an email friends group [i.e no organised meets would be "calendered, but members would simply let each other know where they were going and members would then meet up with each other and book the sites thereselves]. This would obviously negate the need for a formal club structure. It was therefore decided to reduce the club funds and it was decided each member would be given £36 to purchase CC membership so we could take advantage of the quality sites the club runs and also allow members to receive the other benefits of CC membership.
Subsequently the treasurer disagreed with the other three members of the committee and a "split" occurred. Refunds were issued to the membership although the "three" are not certain if all members received the £36. It was further declded no 2009 membership fee would be charged.
An AGM was held in Cheltenham in November and the Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary tendered there resignations. A new committee was formed but unrest has continued for quite sometime due to a refund for an overpayment for a rally in Oxford and financial misuse of the website etc etc.and the decision taken to charge a membership fee.
The new committee continue to run the club and the MAGNUM FRIENDS GROUP of which I am a member has been formed and holds its first meet at Bristol Baltic Wharf CC Site in early March.
I hope the above clarifies what has been discussed above.
