pack up wet or dry - it makes no difference with the van! We did the same - we sold the fc (a conway cruiser) and bought a sterling europa 540 caravan so we can go camping in the dark, wet & cold UK winter! More expensive to 'run' but we can use it all year round with o worries!
We also did exactly the same. Loved our Pennine FC as it had tons of space (we had awning with two bedroom extensions too!) but the weather, time it took to pack up and not being able to stop overnight (with 3 kids and loads of kit) really did it for us.
We have a Bailey Ranger and absolutely LOVE it. Can't wait for Easter.

Lots of people seem to do the same, as we did. We loved our tents over the years but eventually got fed up with soggy pitching and the time it took to pack away at the end of holiday especially in the rain! We've had our caravan since August 2007 and haven't regretted it one bit. Yes its much more expensive but we knew that when we took that decision. We too waited years to be able to afford our first caravan and we haven't been disappointed.
I still have a look at new tents on the market each year though!
I'm another one who change from a FC to caravan. It's a few years ago now, and it's one of the best things I did. I loved my Dandy's, but being able to stop at a layby or even motorway services and have a 'home made' brew is lovely. I've never been fond of motorway tea lol.
Overnighters' and short term stays are just so much easier with a caravan.
We started off in a tt then got a 2 berth caravan just to see how we liked it and now have a lovely 6 berth. I love taking clothes from the house and putting them away in their place and not having to unpack it all when we arrive. Though putting up the awning and setting up the 'van probably takes just as long as a tent lol. It doesn't even bother me that we have to unmake and make up the beds every night which i thought would.
We have just done the same- the folding camper went about 6 weeks ago and the caravan arrived a few weeks ago. I am enjoying packing it up as it is so easy and can't wait till Easter- this is the first time we have been away so early. I am excited about never having to worry about putting away wet canvas and being able to go away out of season!!
