I originally used this unit with a TT and so yes, I did not use it through the 12S plug.
Indeed I will be wiring it between two dedicated caravan batteries, one in the van and the other in the car, but the one in the car will only be charged up when we are touring from a van that is stationary on a non EHU on a caravan site.
When using this unit to top up your caravan battery, I imagine that your car would be parked alongside the caravan and not hooked up to it the way that is suggested in these instructions. When I fitted it up to the TT, the TT did not have a 12S socket and so it was a case of fitting one specifically to connect to the Uni-Charger to charge it and then run all my 12v power from the caravan battery. The cable between the car and the TT was a 15 foot length of loose cable with one end attached to the Uni-charger and the other end made up in a 12S plug. When used this way, the Blue was not used and the only power that was transferred was during the night through the white and green.
For today's set up I intend to make up a length of spiral 7 core cable with a 12S plug at one end and a 12S trailing socket at the other so that I can use the dedicated wiring as is but still have me car parked alongside the van instead of on the A frame.
I will let you know how it all pans out.
