I have been offerd a 85amp NUMAX leisure battery, it is aprox 5yrs old but they say it has not been used much as they mostly used electric hookup.

It is fully charged at the moment and seems ok, is it worth a gamble as he only wants £20 for it, i have not got a battery on my abbey vogue 214 at the moment as we use mostly electric, and probley only use it as a back up.

Although i will be going on some steam rallys for about 4 days at a time using only battery, i know i can purchase a new battery for £50 from my local caravan dealer.

If it has been regularly charged up over the winters pay(gamble)no more than £10 for it, otherwise buy a new one.

When you say fully charged, is it reading 12.8v?

Mmmm...you might be lucky and get two or three years out of it, or it might go duff next week.

Not to be relied (rallied) upon IMO.

try any of the moterist type shops not Halfrauds tho ,I bought a 85amp with 3 year warrenty for 39.99p last year from Wilco's

At 5 years old definitly at the end of it's usable life.

ANY caravan shop will sell batteries, and most of  them will be around the £40 mark for a 85ah battery. BUT - If you intend to do rallies then I would advise you get a 110ah battery. And also get a 3 or 4 stage smart charger and you'll be able to get the charge up to 100%. the chargers in caravans only charge up to 80%.

I think i will take the advise that most of the people have given me on this foram.

I will give it a miss and go for a new battery, the problem i have is would a 110amp battery fit in the battery compartment of a ABBEY VOGUE GTS 214

or should i go for the 85amp.

As a guide price, I think I paid £55 for mine with a 2 year guarantee.

By looking after it with a 4 stage smart charger designed to cope with 110ah batteries I expect it to last around 10 years.
