So far since owning our caravan for the first year it has only been me and hubby that have gone away in it. We only have a 16ft 2 berth which is fine for us two but I would like our kids to come too.
They are 2 girls 16 + 21. I don't think the 21yr old will come with us much if at all but I want the 16yr old to come with us but don't know what to do about her bed.
Do we let her sleep in the middle of the single beds or giver her a tent in the awning. Would she be safe and warm enough in the awning ... would she be ok sleeping on a blow up bed in the middle of our beds(we normally make the double up but would use singles if she came with us)
We don't want to have to change the caravan for a 4 berth as A) we can't really afford to yet B) we are limited to what size we can fit on our drive.
25 years ago our twin daughters announced they did not want to come with us anymore in the van so we made the decision to get rid of the twin axle and Isuzu tank.
Collected van, which was a two berth, just before a holiday to Paris and 2 days before departure one of them said can I come with you??????
Slept on the floor between us for 2 nights and then in the awning. Strangely enough she never came again after being blown away one night !!!!!!!
Yes buy a tent

Our eldest is 11 and we've bought him a tent-one of the pop up ones-to go in the awning. He loves it!!The pop ups are great cos you can put them away in the day if youre space is a bit limited!! I wont let him have it outside yet though-just a bit too far away from us!!

Hi We Have an Annexe on the awning for our 14 yo He loves it in there, We even set im up with a small LCD telly, Xbox 360, Lighting and a little fridge for snacks, he sleeps on a double height single Matress, And theres room for two if his mate comes.
We have a 4 berth and 5 people to get in it. My eldest has the bottom bunk. My other two have the double bed and hubby and I go in he inner tent in the awning. If one of the friends comes along we get our double bed back and 2 go in the awning and the other two in the bunk beds. Our youngest before now has slept on the floor ing the middle of the van on an air bed and slept fine.

I know a couple that take there caravan & put there awning up even if its for two days. & sleep in the awning. They just have the caravan for changing & cooking. I find this very odd.
I wouldn't like to go away without our kids, to us the caravan is there for family holidays. We've got four kids & three of them prefer sleeping in awning annexes, they used to all sleep inside when we had a 6 berth van but now we've got a 5 berth & they're older, they seem to want to be in the annexes.
To be honest, I tried an afternoon snooze in one of them & I'm hoping to get a night or two in there myself this year.
We were away for 3 nights over Easter. Son (aged 15) and I slept in van as usual, daughter (aged 18) and friend slept in a pup tent in the awning. The girls had a choice - pup tent in awning or stay at home.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
I used to sleep in a little 2/3 man behind my mam and dads van when away, loved every minute,
By the time my kids are 13+ (Long wayaway at the moment) they will be out in one unless its winter, that way I can get the fixed bed one I long for! LOL
She will be fine, get her a good sleeping bag and an airbed. If she gets cold take her a little fan heater and an extension lead to warm the tent up before she gets in it.
------------- Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.
We have finally booked a weekend away with both girls who will be sleeping in their 2 man tent inside the awning on a blow up bed with lovely cosy sleeping bags lol. I am so looking forward to them both joining us even if they never come again at least they have tried it.
We used to have a universal annexe with our old awning and our eldest loved it, dead easy to erect as well and when it was cold she had a little 800 watt oil filled radiator in there.
They are sold on here, click on the picture for more details
we have the universal annexe, we have four girls aged 7, 15, 16, & 18, they love having their own space in the awning & often want friends to come along. only the youngest wants to stay in the van with us! we let them warm it with a little halogen heater & bung them an extra quilt wen its cold! but they like the fact they get to lay in (like teenagers do especially when they stay up all night giggling!).
I'm liking the idea of chaining them up & leaving them at home tho give us some peace & quiet lol
