take a look here its a good site for all your tv needs. I bought a DM Log Periodic with a 4 section pole and an a frame clamp. We have yet to find anywhere that we cannot get good reception with this setup even on digital. Be warned the ariel is quite large but if you use good quality cable ( just as important as the ariel) then you should be fine.

Hi Davethedog, Screwfix sell a log periodic aerial fitted with mast head amplifier and power unit plus 10m cable for £26.08p. I have one and it is about 2'6" long, IT is under mega-booster external aerials. Very good for freeview
What ever you do don't get a Status Omni Directional Antenna. You have better odds of an alien spaceship coming to your caravan & mistaking it as one of there ships then getting a reception from it.
The shark tooth as Max and Paddy has is very good. Mine is now in the garage as I have a directional one on the van this time - the Status 530. Well worth the money if you can afford to have the upgrade.

This refers to the Status 315........the 530 (directional) is more than good enough
Have the Status 315 myself and agree with others that it is very poor. Nice to see the positive comments on the 530 tho. Does anyone know how difficult it would be to change from the 315 to the 530??
We have the Status 315.
The only good thing about it is that it stops the rain coming through the hole in the van roof where they fitted it!
We also have a small Maxwell hi gain bought from Screwfix. They sound an unlikely source for aerials but they really do have some good buys at about half the price of camping/vanning shops.
Sticking up the aerial soon becomes part of setting up when arriving on site, and takes little time at all.
The next van will have the Status 530 hopefully!

Fitting a 530 is very simple if you are prepared to cut a hole in the roof of your vehicle!
It requires internal clearance (to raise and lower the pole and rotate it) so is normally fitted in a wardrobe. There is a 10" mast which may fit in a top locker. The internal fitted amplifier is virtually identical to the 315 model.
I bought mine on E-Bay and sold the 315 on E-Bay with a final expenditure of £35 to £50 overall.
If your 315 amplifier is in the wardrobe it won't even need to be moved.
I raise the mast and see what direction any others are pointing then follow suit.
If no others I just raise it then tune in. It will normally find something. If it doesn't I rotate it 180 and try again. I then fine tune by simply turning the mast for the best signal and tune in again..
It really isn't necessary to know where the transmitter is. This works in all the Northern European countries.
We have had a Status 315 in our last 3 caravans without a problem. we have even had a reasonable picture at sites where they state "poor or no tv reception". Before you condem your 315 check the connections and the booster box are working ok. It would be a shame to spend £130 on a new 530 aerial to find it was a faulty cable or booster. You could even just have a damaged antenna tip which is common. £7.95 for a new tip.
Thanks Craig but this is the 2nd van i had with a 315 aerial and both are pretty poor in out of the way places. Problem is when using freeview you either get a picture or you dont unlike terrestrial where you can watch a grainy picture.

As areas change over to a digital signal it will be necessary to know where to point the Aeriel as if it isn't correct you will get nothing at all, of course if there are others already aligned then yes you will be able to follow suit but if not then you will have great difficulty unless you know where the transmitter is.
