I just wondered what other peoples views were on caravan covers.
I have just moved my caravan to a new woodland storage site, where there's obviously birds mess, tree sap, falling twigs and leaves etc. I was thinking about buying a caravan cover to protect the outside of the caravan but have heard conflicting reports. Some people say that the covers provide good protection, whilst other people say that the covers don't let the caravan air properly, which leads to 'sweating', condensation and even in extreme cases damp. So now i'm a little confused. What are your thoughts?
I look forward to reading your replies!

We cover ours from October until March with no problems whatsoever. It is a specialised covers one and came with the van and I'd rather cover it than leave it open to the winter elements as it is 12 years old now.
Believe it or not I asked the same question of the caravan dealer I was about to purchase a new caravan from.
Bearing in mind that he would have made money out of me had he recommended one, he in fact didn't!
He told me that they can leave marks on windows and that a cheaper more effective method was to coat the van in something like Fenwicks overwintering.
So I didn't buy one!

If you cover your windows in cling film firm your windows will be OK mine was last winter takes about 2 hours with washing covering windows and putting on the covers but you save that on cleaning in the spring hope this helps Andy.
If you go to a caravan storage place you very rarely see one that is covered. The place where I store mine there is one with a cover on in about 300 caravans. I would never use one. Having said that I wouldnt store it under trees either,so you may need a cover. Just my own opinion.
Hi, We used to store ours without one near to tree's and the mess over winter made it look like it's been underwater for a year, We now use a cover from towsure which is breathable and doesn't scratch, I clean and leave to dry for a day then cover it up and each time we go out it still looks spotless, even leaving it for a couple of weeks without the cover it looks really dirty,

We have been using a breathable cover over the winter months, coupled with leaving the roof vent slightly open. When we went to get it from storage just before Easter it was clean on the outside and dry on the inside.

We cover ours and have never had a condensation problem. As for marks on the windows, I think it depends what material your cover is made of.
We buy the cheap covers which last about 3 to 4 year. They are made of lightweight breathable material and have never seen a mark on the windows. I think it might be another urban myth!!!!
Towsure do some good ones. If you buy one about 2ft longer than your van then you can stretch it over the 'A' frame aswell.
Hmmm not sure about that 2kias because if it is too big it is liable to move more and possibly scratch? Ours has a separate hitch cover that velcroes round and the actual cover is an excellent fit.
We have just ordered our new 'van and are wondering about this too but there seem to be as many who are against as those who are for lol.
So i asked the dealer what his opinion was. He said that he didn't used to like them as the material wasn't very durable. But the new breathable ones are so much better.
At another dealer we saw some scotchguard type stuff that that dealer would do for us and it was really good. He showed us a 'van with it on and one without and it really does speak for itself. The dealer we got our 'van from knows someone who can do it for us if we wanted it.
If we were parking our 'van where you are i think i'd be seriously tempted to go for both, the protector thingy and a cover. Even if you had to buy a new cover every year it would protect the 'van from the tree's.
hth and sorry i don't know the name for or even quite what it is to protect the 'van
Reading this with interest as we are thinking of buying one for our van. Just one question though - what do you do about your status ariel? Thanks for advice.
