Got a phone call this evening at 6pm from the storage site.

"Unfortunately your caravan has been broken into. If you can come now the police are still here"  GUTTED

Got there to find that about 12 caravans had been broken into. Ours had the door lock screwdrivered all the cupboards ransacked and the TV, DVD player & freeview box nicked. Fortunately there was no other damage.

The other van owners had suffered varying degrees of damage from broken into and nothing taken to one poor guy who had his van broken into electricals taken, then trashed his van inside then oddly took 3 of his windows.

Taking the barrel of the lock to a locksmith tomorrow see if it can be repaired or not. When it's all sorted, I fail to see what I can possibly do to stop it happening again in the future.

Slightly concerned that they may return again but can't make my mind up what kind of people are responsible. Are they just kids after the electricals or are they a little more sophisticated and targetting specific vans for a return visit for removal.

Anyway I'm absolutely sick & gutted  B*****DS

No way of knowing.

Make sure you leave nothing of value in the van and secure it as best as you can.

Not much else you can do without worrying yourself to death.

How terrible! Can't imagine how that feels, to know that some sicko has been inside your caravan and helped themselves to anything they wanted. Also just the fact that the scum have been inside, touching everything. Uck. Unfortunately some people have no respect for other peoples property and believe it is their right to do as they wish.

The fact that the storage site security has been breached doesn't bode well. Will the owners improve security/access? It makes the hgih fees we pay for our very secure storage worth while!

Know how you feel, mine was done on the driveway in January. Tried bustin the lock and when that did not work they crowbarred the door and bent it back. £600 repair

Have had a fiamma handle fitted, does not stop them totally but it may cause them to look elsewhere. £60 well spent imo.

The thought of some low-life coward being in your van is enough to make you physically sick...I can't even begin to imagine how you feel right now. Problem with caravan doors is they are still pretty easy to force open as the adjoining walls are so soft. Even if the manufacturers came up with a re-enforced door, and much stronger walls, these B****rds would still find a way in... Like Rats...Feel really Sorry for you mate...

I am so sorry for you. I know exactly how you feel. We had one of our vans broken into when we kept it in storage and although repaired, the van was never quite the same. The police told us that some travelling people of a certain type had cut the fence between two posts (It was 8' high and had barbed wire on the top) and had stolen a brand new van by driving it out between the posts. The 'lovely little offspring' of said people had then run riot doing every other van on the site. Some of them had damage far worse than ours. It seemed the newer the van, the worse the damage. They said not to put any replacement goods back in the van as they would be back to see what they could find new - and they did!!!

We moved from that site very quickly as the security could not have been that good if the little b****rs had time to do so many vans without being heard and to come back again.

Hope the repair works and you don't have any further problems.

So sorry to hear this terrible news. I know we would be devastated if they broke into our caravan. We keep ours on our drive and remove any valuables.

We have been toying with the idea of changing our caravan to a much newer one but when we read posts like this one it makes us think twice.

Is it mainly newer caravans that are targeted as we never seem to hear much of older vans (ours is a 94) being broken into or stolen.

I feel for you - we had a similar break-in at our previous storage site. Turns out it was kids looking for fire extinguishers, as they get high on the repellant...... They also stole a few odds and ends, but these were later recovered by the police, and we got most of our stuff back.

After that, we stuck a notice on the window saying that there were no fire extinguishers or valuables kept inside. I know it's not exactly fool-proof, but it showed them that we were aware of their intentions!

Kev sorry to hear your news. It must be every owners nightmare. Our is in storage at the moment and I dread going to it and finding something like this.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Thats awful Kev, our storage place got broken into too but fortunately they left ours alone, we have since moved it to a more secure site but I do breathe a sigh of relief when I go and it's ok. I worry more about it though when it's on the drive, I don't want some drunk kid to walk past and just scratch it for no reason.

Im new to this caravaning etc but it so sad when other people just think they have the right to take someone else property. It's no consulation but i am really sorry it's a real shame that these people dont get caught but even when they do the punisment is never enough. You probably worked so hard to be able to purchase everything, and they think they deserve evrything free.

I would rather give things away.

So Sorry.
