We have the Mayday premium policy through the CC but it seems that green Flag staff cannot answer a simple question. In the unfortunate event your caravan suffers a puncture, will they replace the tyre on the spot if you have a spare or will they uplift the caravan to the nearest tyre shop to do the exchange.
If they can do it on the spot, will the contractor have the correct lifting gear (jack) for the caravan to enable them to change the tyre?
Green Flag call centre staff seem unsure of this especially about the lifting gear (Jack) for the caravan and cannot give a definite answer.

We had a accident last year, our caravan wheel hit an ornamental stone coming out of a CC site it smashed the rim, (it was the rim on the van as the car coming towards us our side of the road, we swerved to miss him, he would have hit us full on),rang green flag they were going to send a tow truck to pick up the car when I said it was the van with the flat and not the car, they still insisted in sending out tow truck, it would be over an hour before they arrived.
The warden of the site had a very large trolley jack,(I canceled green flag call out), we managed to jack up the van and replace the Tyre, I still don't know how they where going to get the van onto the truck, or if the would have ever fixed the problem.
They just didn't seam to grasp the problem.

I have emailed CC for an explanation of what is covered but as they have a poor response rate to emails, I am not holding my breath! I would be a bit annoyed if they dragged my caravan onto a low loader beause of a puncture.

I suggest you join the R A C next time , we had a puncture on the motorway , and they came out , jacked the van up and put our spare on for us , and if we breakdown they take our car and van home for us

Due to a very bad experience with RAC they would be bottom of our list although they did compensated us for the last incident. Mayday do the same with taking car & caravan home also. For the two cars including home start, driver care and onward journey, it costs us £110 per annum whih is quite good value even if they can't answer a simple question.

We were with Green Flag for years, and although we had cause to call them out, it was not when we were towing, but we found they don't even do minor repairs, all they do is get you to the nearest garage, these garages do the pick-up, so they want you to use their services, other than a flat battery, you will be taken to a garage, all the independant garages are contracted by Green Flag depending on the area the garages are signed up to cover, therefore the only way the garages get any money is by doing repairs.

Since joining AA, they even change brake pads on the road side.  You would never get Green Flag doing that.

Payment to contractors by Green Flag is based on mileage getting to the incident and towing. The contractor gets more money if they tow than if they do a roadside repair.

The AA once replaced my wheel with the spare. Unkown to them at the time though the steel sapre required different wheel nuts than the original alloy. Wheel came off 5 miles down the road, disastourous results, long story on another thread somewhere here. So make sure yopu have right wheel nuts if spare is a steel and original is alloy. I replaced my stell spare with a new alloy (£70), worth it for piece of mind.

the answer is always carry a good spare wheel n tyre and the required tools to do the job. green flag do recovery not roadside repairs. the cost of all these type of firms is spiraling due to people wanting wheels changed etc. they really should be for emergencies only.

There are those amongst us who cannot do a simple job like change a wheel due to medical reasons and to us a puncture anywhere is an emergency!

It's all very well if you are able to change a wheel yourself. There are many people who for one reason or another are unable to change a wheel.
It may not be an emergency, but how else are they going to get a wheel changed?
It's a breakdown organisation, and they have broken down!

At the end of the day, if they were prepared to take you home, look at the fuel you would have saved. The fuel was probably worth more than the cost of the puncture.

We had the alko jack to do the job and a new spare tyre, under normal circumstances this would have done the job, the van was on such a angle that it was very close to tipping over as it was on the side of the road, there were only inches to get a jack in, the alko jack was too big to fit in the gap.

A trolley jack is just too heavy to carry.

We didn't want to go home just carry on with our holiday.

Gone with AA for our breakdown although tried to do it online but could'nt as the website is only set up for vehicle's aged 10 year's or newer so a quick phone call to customer service's explaining that car is 6 year's old and the Land Rover is 22 year's old they both are used for towing either trailer or caravan and asked if  these are covered as well? The bloke tapped away on the computer and offered me Roadside and Relay for 7 quid a month for both vehicle's towing or not. I snatched his hand off. the renewal's come through and it's still £7 every egg a bird!!!
