Can you use remoulds on a caravan? We were going to have new tyres fitted at a cost of £146 by Kwikfit but money is in short suppy due to redundancy so need to look elsewhere. They are for a twin axle and have a load rating of 79 with speed factor H (car tyres).. At the moment we only use the caravan about once a month and within a 20 mile radius of where we live. The current tyres although they look in A1 conditon with no cracking etc are now 9 years old.
i wouldn't use remoulds on my car let alone on a caravan after i had one were the tread was coming away from the rest of tyre so in my eyes they should not be sold for either

Also had that problem a few years ago. Drivin down a motorway at 60 i heard a hell of a racket. Pulled over when safe and the wing was covered in black marks. Outside tread had almost disintergrated.
For the difference in cost i would never have aremould again.
remoulds sre tested the same as new tyres by law i've known truck firms who use them on trucks that go on tips or building sites a lot and get daqmaged easy but still do upto 100,000km a year.
Me neither - not a chance! KwikFit look expensive to me - I'm changing my tyres next week. I set of a thread a while ago - people seem to find little wrong with Matadors - been quoted £38 each fitted and balanced by a local fitter or £58 for Pirellis or £86 for premium make eg Firestone - but I hear mixed reports on Firestone. So my three look like being Matadors. Why 3? - one for the spare.
Thanks. I agree I would never have remoulds on my car butI thought that perhaps on a caravan that is doing low mileage it may not be an issue. I just spent £446 on 4 new tyres for my vehicle but they should last me at least 8 years providing my mileage does not shoot up. Currently under 500 miles a month.
I suppose the other option is remoulds and to put the caravan on a seasonal site due to our current financial situation created by redundancy.

We have Tyron bands on all 4 wheels and a lot of fitters are not competent when removing and replacing tyres with the tyron bands. The current tyres are GT radials 165/70 13 79H and Kwikfit were abel to offer the same brand but with a better rating.
Just annoyed to discover that the tyres were over three years old when fitted to our brand new caravan!
Kwik Fit are one of the most expensive around. I have always found ETB about the cheapest, but always phone around for quotes. If you are taking the trouble to get quotes, they will always try to be competitive. The worst thing you can ever do is go into a tyre depot and ask for two new tyres on this please as they will almost always hit you with an inflated price. Remoulds are a false economy as with so many budget brands around, you can usually get a "new" tyre with a budget brand for less than a remould. Whilst some argue that budget brands are not suitable, a large number of budget tyres are made by the big names anyway.
The best tyres around are almost certainly Michellins with Pirelli coming in second, but the rest seem to lag quite a way behind these and even some of the big brand tyres are no better than some of the budget tyres.
If money is tight, go for a budget over a remould as these are often cheaper anyway and avoid Kwik Fit like swine flu. (Unless you know a staff member with a key to the back door)

Arrgh! leave the Firestones alone whatever you do. My sister had 4 fitted new and all developed a bulge in the side wall with hardly any use at all. I have used Matadors on my car a few times, though would hardly call them a premium brand. I have been sold them as budgets. All depends on what the dealer can do them for at the time. I have also had Yokohamas for only a few pounds more than budgets. I found the car stuck to the road like it was on rails with them.
or you could source the tyres online yourself and have them fitted at a tyre fitters, my local one charges £10 for fitting, valve and balancing, could work out alot cheaper.

That's the size! I'm told that Pirelli do one that size too, as wellas Maxxis - which sem tobe a bit like hen's teeth! Trouble is with a different size I think I'd need to adjust the motormover.
I have been quote £52.19 by ATS for 175R13 GT Maxmiler 97/95R CX Tyre., which apparently the AA use on there trailers. i like maxmiller tyres,is this a recent quote at ATS?i have not been able to find them.stay away from matador and federal they crack on the side wall after 12 month.
