Hi after letting that peice of rubbish go yesterday we got home and found another one on ebay with only 45 mins to go untill the end. I rang the guy and said i was going to bid but i would be walking away if i get there and it's not as described! I'm waiting for him to ring me up with the CRIS number so i can do a check before we go down there.

It's a Fleetwood Heritage 600 es and does need some tlc. It's 2000 model and we won it for £2800. I will need to recover the cushions at the front (neighbour is doing this for me) I will also change the mattress on the fixed bed, its all bobbly and scruffy looking. A lamp needs replacing and it needs some flooring. I've got a budget of £500 and with my neighbour helping out at a low price i should hopefully get it looking nice. The woodwork does look a bit tatty on the pics but i spose for the price i can't complain.

I'm just sat here now all twitchy waiting for the guy to ring.  I want to go and get it while the kids are at school.....oh come on phone..ring! lol.

It really was a bag of poop!  Hopefully i can save people from a wasted journey by posting it on here!  I can't believe his wife actually wanted £5750 for it!!

I've rang the guy with the van i'm viewing today about 20 mins ago and he said he was on his way down to the van to get the numbers for me and would ring within the hr....fingers crossed i finally get the van thats right for us...i'm just praying there are bunks above the front seating area. The guy said the paperwork said 4-6 berth.

Right must get off here and go and clean the kitchen before we set off!

Well i'm home and i'm empty handed! To say i'm peed off is an understatement grrrrr!

I dragged my 23 month old son on a 4.5hr round trip only to find the worst example of a caravan i have ever seen! As soon as i walked in the floor started bouncing. Infact the floor bounced everywhere in the van. It was filthy dirty, the shower door was missing, the shower was rusty, the radiator in the loo was rusty. The end seats were far worse than the pics and had burns all over them. The bedroom was disgusting and it had a cracked window. Hubby had a look underneith and he said everything was rusty. It looked like tramps or druggies had been squating in it yuk! It also wasnt a 6 berth like he stated.

I told the guy straight it was awful and he's be very lucky to even get a grand for it. I doubt very much anything actually worked in there and i certainly wasn't going to take his word for it.

To make matters worse the woman with the avondale i really liked has now sold it this evening. I'm gutted....back to the drawing board. Hubby is very reluctant to look at anything else now.

Do you know what Sue? I am that fed up with private sales i am seriously thinking of paying extra and going to a trader. We can now muster up £4500 once the hobbys gone this wkend but i don't know what year we'll get for that. Anything in the mid-late 90's would do as long as everything is working and its not too scruffy. I know caravans get wear and tear but you have to see it to believe it with that van.

Keep looking.  I know that it seems as if you will never find the "one" but you just have to keep trying.  At least you have had the courage to walk away from these.

Just something to keep in mind £4,500 is a lot of money and you can and should expect to get a decent 'van for it.  It may be an older model but not so old that all you will get is trash.

I don't know your financial circumstances but £4,500 would make a decent deposit and then with loan rates quite low it might be worth considering buying new?

I know a lot of caravanner's on here who have had a few 'vans and then bought new lol

Don't give up looking.... something will turn up.... it's no good buying an awful van.

We bought our lastest van for £2995 it was reduced in the sale at our local dealers and is a brill van..... lovely and clean....everything working....no damp....cushions in prefect condition.....the van had a removable carpet with wooden floor under so we opted to take the carpet out with having two dogs....the cooker looked new as though never used..... we have only found one small problem one cupboard in the end bathroom was broken and OH fixed this with some wood glue and as good as new..... our van is a 4 berth 1998 and we bought it last year at begin of October.

Hi girls thanks for the replys! Hubby does like the look of a van 4hrs away but its a lot of money. Its from someone called star caravans on ebay in North wales. Its an elddis crusader superstorm 6 berth  1995, he wanted 5650 for it! We said we'd give him low 4's if its any good and he got back with the figure of 4650.

We've left it for a wk and have asked him last night to lower again. I just hope his pics are not ancient ones like the others from yesterday obviously were! I will not be going with hubby. I said take a tent and go with a friend and stay up there overnight if its rubbish.

You should have seen the two of us last night, sat there all disheartened, tired and grumpy lol.

Have you tried Swindon Caravans - we have delt with them before - they are nice people and a well stocked accessory shop and workshop too and probably only about 1hr from you

http://www.swindoncaravans.com/used_caravans_for_sale.php?page=6

Hope this helps - they seem to have a number of vans under 4.5k and last time we bought from them we casually said we might go for something new and the sales chappie knocked off £500 instantly - worth a try

 Andy
