When we decided to buy a caravan we were told only use the shower in emergencies as using the shower too often will cause damp in the caravan. Having read the recent post on showering, I see that quite a few people use them and there is not a mention about showering causing damp in the caravan. So was it a load of buncum from the dealer. We have a brand new Xplore with a fixed bed and it would lovely to jump out of bed and straight into the shower!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Use your shower if you want to, the showers as fitted should prevent any damp getting into the walls, if they do not then you have a claim against the manufacturer.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Hi Mags. I also have your concerns about using the shower in the caravan. When we changed our caravan we opted for a shower in a cubicle. I must admit that I use it more than anyone else in my family as I dont like the shower block in the site where we have a part seasonal pitch.
I always dry it off with an old towel and make sure I leave the window and skylight open for a while to get rid of the steam. So far so good, no problem with damp! The only thing that worried me was the shower tray nearly overflowed because the waste master got too full. If this had happened it could have been a disaster with water running all over the caravan.
I have never heard anything so daft in all my life!!! I bet the Explorer Group will not be happy for their dealer to be bad mouthing their products like that.
Thanks everyone.......We are off to Ashbourne next week and gonna use my shower and of course make sure the waste is empty. We bought our caravan two weeks ago and tempted to ring dealer and tell him he is talking rubbish
When my aquaroll gets full it simply overflows onto the pitch, not something I want to happen but it does sometimes if I have forgotten to do my chores. How do you set it up so that it stops the water leaving the caravan? Not that I want that either.

Our shower sits above the outlets for the wastemaster. I had washed some dishes and ran a lot of water during the day. When the shower was on that evening it must have caused the waste water to back up or something. At first I thought the plug hole must have had a blockage until hubby pointed this out and emptied the wastemaster, then it was perfect again.
I love having a shower in our caravan, we recently changed our caravan to one with an end bathroom, because we rally loads. My hubby cracked one of the caps on the waste master so it seeps out gradually and also we dont have the shower running all the time

How strange, the natural string of events would say that if the wastemaster is full the water comes out of the hole that the waste pipe from the caravan feeds into as this is the easiest course for the water, unless of course that hole is sealed in some way.

We don't use the shower in our 'van because i don't think the wallboards are protected enough for it not to cause damp, even though it's obviously got some kind of protective wallpaper over the wallboards i don't want to take the chance - and i don't really think it would be a very pleasureable experience in the Ranger we have as there isn't a lot of room for showering. But in the 'vans with plastic shower enclosure's i wouldn't worry. When the kids have grown up and it's just me and dh then i will want a 'van with a seperate shower...
My van is 10 years old, I use the shower cubicle in the end washroom all the time and there is no sign of damp. Just keep an eye on seals and go over occasionally to check there are no cracks. Why have the space for an end bathroom and not use the shower?
Only thing I would say is watch water usage, you can't expect to have a long hot shower with the water flowing as the tank is not big enough.
we use our shower most of the time ,in fact it was the excellent shower cubical that made our minds up to buy the van ,occasionally we use the site showers but you cant beat the convenience of your own shower

Very strange - and exactly the same happened to us! As you say, normally (and every other occasion) it has just overflowed from the wastemaster.....

Hi Gram. I bet you were as surprised as us to find this can happen but with all the different models of caravans now, theres always something new to learn. Its not a problem, though. I still love the shower in the caravan. My problem is, when not in use, the cubicle gets used for storing the vacuum cleaner, brush & pan, dirty washing hamper.......etc. We just close the door and it hides everything. Its like a major removal project to have a shower, lol!!!!!
