Hi all.Just wandered if anyone else has noticed an increase in articulated wagons that are limited to 40mph on single carriageways.I know it must be for safety reasons but its annoying when you've got the van on the back and get stuck behind one.We always seem to run up behind them on the A41 between newport and chester and it takes forever to find a stretch clear enough to overtake, and our car isnt all that fast. They mostly seem to be from the Cullina company but im sure there must be others.

being a driver of an artic i can tell you that 40mph on single roads is the law, and yes i do stick to the legal limits, take into account i drive between 9 and 12 hours a day.....i have 1 licence that gives me the right to earn my living and 12 points are very easy to come by, so if you ever get stuck behind me doing 40 mph, sorry but tuff.

always been the case .yes 40mph on single roads 50 on dual 60 but limited to 56 on motorways . well for a long time any way. its called get your own back on caravans etc. if truckers stuck to the limits think of the delays to everyone.
its always been the law,and now with more mobile speed cameras out there you have to try and stick to it ,it really is a stupid law as most of the time i could easily go faster but cant in case i get caught for speeding.how crazy is it for 2 lots of vehicles to share a road with at least 20mph difference between there speed.
Think the worst thing about this law is when you get a road like the A614 Gainsborough Rd.It is 50MPH throughout its length. It is single track for around 70% of the road the rest being dual carriagway and has a few distance speed cameras. The problem is that the large vehicles can only travel at 40MPH on the single carriagway and there are very few safe overtaking opportunities, then when it changes to dual carriageway they can go up to 50MPH so still cannot overtake legaly. Then back to 40MPH and so on.
This is not a slur on wagon drivers, just an observation as i drive a mini bus and get stuck on many occasions.
you have to be carefull when driving lgv`s get caught doing 45 in a 40 in a car you may get a talking to, get caught in an lgv and you get the old ( 44 tonnes rumbling through here at 45 mph...heres 3 points for you driver ) so its not worth it, and the way i look at it is i have all day to do what i have to do and if it doesnt get done theres always tommorrow, one life, live it, enjoy it....slow down :)

i'm a ex trucker and 40 mph on single carriageway as being law for years and the thing that used to p at at s me off was the car driver's who see a lorry/caravan want to get in front when you going slow than you get stuck behind them just down the road
