We have been looking at various types of towing mirrors and have come across the 'Suck it and see' ones by Pyramid. Seems like a good idea as they don't have to be strapped around the mirror. Does anyone have any comments/experience re these mirrors? Are they as good as they sound?

Thanks

Don't know, but my experience of suckers, is that they tend to release themselves at the wrong moment!
I'll keep the ones that stay on!

This link give a review of lots of different mirrors.

http://www.practicalcaravan.com/product/apr06.html

Unfortunately the suck it and see doesn't seem to be any good according them.

Quote "The extension mirror is made from poor-quality glass that provides a blurred and distorted view, which is very disorientating. This leaves you with the temptation to rely on your car's own mirror – but it has a big sucker stuck in the middle of it".

I've used them now for 2 years towing a Bailey Wyoming and found them to be excellent, there is a safety cord ties around your mirror just in case, I've never had one come off yet. Thew beauty is they adjust with your electric mirrors in case its raining when your packing up!!

We love ours.I dont know why people say they give blurred vision.Ours are rock solid when they're on.Just one thing to remember is to make sure your wing mirror glass is clean before you fix on the towing mirror because i think thats why ours came off twice recently. As soon as i cleaned the mirror and the sucker we had no more probs.

Everyone to their own opinion.
Mine is that I tried them,(suck its)and didnt like them.
Reason?
I like to use both the cars mirrors and the towing mirrors. 'Suck Its' obscure too much.

The towing mirrors show down both sides of the van, the cars mirrors I can adjust so that, when I am turning or manouvering/reversing, I can see the caravans wheels in relation, to say, the kerb.

I use Rock Steadies also from Pyramid.
Belts and braces and cheap!

Rock Steadies fit my Astra no problem.

The Vectra's may be similar.

Me too!  Bought one of the suck it and see to try - it kept falling off plus you lose the view of the existing mirror.

Over the years have tried several types these are very easy to mount and take off, they do stay on and they do the job. They are not the biggest and the glass is not the highest quality but they do all that you need imo.

Thanks very much for all your advice on the Suck it and See's! Sounds like it's really down to personal choice, think we'll give them a try and will report back our findings! Fingers crossed that they stick!!

IF you are buying new mirrors make sure they carry the correct  E marking , they are illegal if they do not comply. During recent police /VOSA checks on touring caravans it has been reported that many owners have been warned /fined for having unmarked/incorrectly marked mirrors. I do not wish to scaremonger but if you are getting new ones, then make sure they complie!!
