Finally got our new (to us) caravan home on Saturday. Was only when I looked out of the bedroom window I noticed the previous owners postcode in foot high letters on the caravan roof.
Never seen this before.
Is it common ?
Obviously I'd like our postcode up there instead, so does anyone know where the letters are available from ?
Cheers.

A bit off topic but I know of someone who has the roof of his van (commercial vehicle) sign written with his business details so that it can be seen by people working above ground level.

Use the last 6 digits of the caravan chassis number as the unique identifier rather than your post code.

Certainly wouldn't put the postcode on the roof for reasons already stated. The car regestration is a bit of a concern. One day you may want to change the car or caravan. Selling the caravan on with a regestration number on the roof might proove difficult and will almost certainly cause some kind of devaluation.
Does anyone really think the police are going to use their resources sending a helicopter up after a stolen caravan when they could be sat at the side of the road with a flask of tea and a radar gun?
For that reason, I wouldn't bother. Far better to take precautions to stop it getting stolen in the first instance. Once it has been stolen, if the police were to give chase, it is probably going to end up written off or severely damaged anyway. Personally I'd rather it didn't get recovered and have myself a new one.
Leave the previous owners postcode on there so they get burgled while you are away, leaving one less burgler to do your house.

Yep! Can't see the Law sending a chopper after a caravan. Nor can I see many burglars with helecopters so seems a pointless excercise.

Don't have the postcode on the roof of our van but fail to see why its not a good idea.
The postcode only identifies the area [road/roads etc] and not individual properties so fail to see how a prospective burglar can see you in your van in Devon and then jump in his car and travel to Kent, locate your house by postcode and burgle it!

If I was a burglar why would I bother travelling to an area because I had seen a postcode on top of a caravan. Once I arrived in that area I would then have to locate houses that were unoccupied!
Surely I might as well do the same in my local area and save the petrol!
If people want to put postcodes, reg numbers etc etc on top of caravans thats ok by me as long as they are happy to do it who cares!
Its a bit like "Baby on board" signs whats the point?

I'd work to remove the ones there if it were mine. I don't want some scun bag seeing my postcode & popping it into his sat nav so he can ay a visit thinking my house is empty.
Mark it in some way such as your mobile number but I suggest not your postcode. You could always use the one that's on the roof to identify your caravan, scumbagburglar.com don't need to know it's not yours.

Farmers livestock trailers are very popular with thieving scumbags. I used to work at an agricultural engineers workshop where we were regularly asked to get the farm postcode on the roof of the trailers we sold as well as the farmers name and address on the front panel.
