Was having a look on seals+direct's website for some replacement window seals for my caravan. Not sure which type i need, anyone have any idea? My caravan is a 1995 sterling europa 500L Thanks in advance for any help.
Usually have to give the windows a bit of a thump to get them to open. Have gray seals fitted and was told these have a habit of going brittle and then they start to crumble. Going to replace them all with the black seals over the winter as these are supposed to be a better product for the job!

Where are u located in N Ireland? Might be able to help with this.

Hi fortracfan, im in ballyclare co. antrim
Do Dorvic not do window rubbers??
If they don't then I got mine from Dougie in Old Mill Caravans in Ballybogey. He carries (or he did) 2 different thickness of these and on my old Abbey I needed both - don't understand why but the back panel seemed to be thicker than the rest.
A few words of advice from someone who has done this, done it wrong and hopefully learned. Replace the centre flat strip that the support struts and window catches screw through when you do the rubbers. I was convinced that i could get it back on in the same place and reuse the original holes. I couldn't as it seemed to stretch a little and I was left with the odd screw hole visable that I had to fill with a wee drop of silicon - acceptable but not perfect. Also the caravan dealers have a little tool to reinsert this strip - it is a lot harder to do it if you can't borrow one of them. Also stick masking tape to the caravan right round the old seal before you remove it. Then mark the position of all the screw holes so that you have some idea where to remount all the window hardware after the new seals go on. Use a really sharp knife to cut the new seals and try to cut the ends as square as possible as it will be seen when you match up the two ends round the window. I also found that white spirit was excellent at removing the old sealant from the van before trying to fit the new seals. First one will take you a couple of hours but once you get going you will be able to do them in about 3/4 hour each. Have fun !!
I'm helping to do a set within the next couple of weeks so i hope i remember to follow my own advice. Its a dirty sticky job but with a bit of patience it really makes a tremendous difference to your van.

Thanks for the advice fortracfan, will measure what thickness i need and call up to dorvic's at the weekend. Where are you from yourself, anywhere near me?

Hmm - outside Ballymena - far for some not so far for others.
Nowhere near as famous as u either !!!!

Do you not get regular mentions on a famous radio programme??
And all i meant was it's not that far for me from Clougmills, but others round here think a trip to Ballyclare is far enough that they would need a flask and a picnic.
I do the trip almost every morning so its like a walk in the park for me + I have regular appearances at the weekend in Dorvic trying to negotiate for my new Bailey.
PS Since i'm not getting a good enough deal it now looks like its going to be bought in England.

So you're a listener then, have a bit of craic with the wee man most days! As for Dorvic's, Dorothy won't give much away, you would have stood a better chance of a bit of discount from Victor if he were still alive! Good luck with your search!!!

I couldn't argue with any of that. Heading off this morning to both Abbey and to Moores to take another look before going over the water. We already looked at a Sprite quattro FB but I don't think its up to the standard of the Abbey or a Bailey Loire (same layout) so the last resort would be a Swift Charisma 545 which is really a compromise of what we want but I just dont see the asking price in a Swift caravan. Dorothy was looking more for an 08 ex demonstrator than i can buy a new 2010 in England. Same happened the last time - the Abbey was way cheaper in England as well. Its not really much hassle going over to pick up a van - having a week somewhere in England or Scotland and then home again.
PS - Did u miss him this week - Lynette Fay while she tries hard just doesn't cut it for me - i only turned radio back on on Thursday

Did'nt get much chance to listen to the radio this week as i was working outside [painter&decorator] but the show definately not the same when the wee man's away, he's fond of the banter and i'm always ready to give him a bit of abuse!!! Keep tuned in, will give you a big shout out some day! Ya got a nickname you go by?
Thanks - don't get listening as often these days as i used to when i was a truck driver but still catch it some days.
Did u manage to get window seals from Dorothy?
I spent yesterday looking at vans but still can't decide what to do. We saw a 2005 (brand new) Swift conqeror that has really taken our fancy - It really is a mighty well equiped caravan but its a long way from the new 2009 van we set out to buy. Some head scratching needed here.

Called in to Dorvic's to-day and asked Dorothy about the seals, about £15 per metre she said, keep them i said!!! Went home and googled them, www.leisureshopdirect.co.uk does them for just over £5 per metre and the insert for about £1!! Need 25 metres to do all windows. Are you not going to wait and check out the new Pegasus, apparently they come with a 10yr water ingress guarantee! In the meantime, keep looking, the one for you is out there, somewhere!!!!!
