Evening, we are in the process of looking to buy our first caravan and have seen an avondale argente 640-6 (2005)that we like. It is more money than we were originally planning on spending but seems like a good deal for this spec and age. However it did say that it had got a problem with one panel, where water had come in? After more research and info from you guys on ukcs, we found all the threads regarding the splits in panels on avondales!!!! we are now put off going to look at this van tommorrow as we are pretty sure it must be this problem with it. Would like to know what any of your views are on it???

Personally I would steer clear of it. A friend has an Argente (3 years old) and has just noticed cracks in the rear panel and also has water ingress. Unfortunately he has no warranty since Avondale shut down.

Yes, I think I would agree with the comments above.  Two problems really: (i) damp; (ii) Avondale.

Thats unfair...... Avondale are no worse than any other van for water ingress, We bought our Avondale after they closed down .. ok we only have the dealers warrenty but as long as we look after her she'll be ok . we check regularly for any problems and I do mean any. even if we cant get away in  her we still go to storage to check everything is ok and as I'm waiting to go into hospital for major surgery it may be quite a while before we do get away so my OH will have to do the checking and she does'nt miss a thing trust me. atb Bill

Yes, agree with the above. Have you owned an Avondale David? On my second, which I bought after the factory closed. No warranty at all, unless you count the dealers so called warranty. Superb van and absolutely no problems in the year that I have had it so far.

This is the reason I would no longer buy an Avondale.  The problem as I see it is Avondale the company not Avondale the van.

Apologies - did not mean to offend.

Hi - if you feel it is the right van go for it, we downsized recently & it was over 1000 miles to Essex & back - but we got the right van.  Good luck

Hope I haven't either.  Avondale was just down the way from us at Atherstone, and I know feeling about the company locally was a little hot at the time.  It's a realy pity they went under, as I know they produced some good vans.

David, not a problem,   17

From what I could understand Avondale did'nt go bust they just decided to close Avondale coachcraft (who made the caravans) after the founder died, at least that is what I was told when I contacted Avondale. This is our 2nd Avondale and both have been good vans so anyone thinking of buying an Avondale dont be put off. atb Bill

I think it was probably a 'bit of both' - if local tittle-tattle is anything to go by. 17  ....and probably a complicated story!

Best wishes
