Well after a very eventful drive down and back to Scotland, we have finally recovered

We left at around 8.30 AM and arrived at 3.00 PM due to the M6 being closed from 18 to 19 we just got onto the diversion route when we heard on the radio it was back open again.

Got to the show only to find it was closing at 6 PM so paid and arm and a leg for 3 hours more or less had to sprint around.

found a van we really liked but could not get the correct tow weight for our car as there computer did not have the exact one gets home checks it and we where well within

We where disappointed that there are virtually no 4 5 or 6 berth family vans available as most had the double beds fitted come on manufacturers we need them and lightweight as well

after the show closed we tried to get something to eat only to be told they where closing

Get to the car just as it was getting dark hubby puts the headlights on and both headlights blew so he decides to follow behind the lorries pulling in at every service station to see if the had bulbs not one of them had them

So we pull off at the Wigan junction for something to eat and ask if there is a garage open and where told about half a mile down the road gets to it just as it was closing and fills up with diesel at 6 p cheaper than at home and gets 3 bulbs and fits them both in 5 Min's what a relief

Morel of the story only go to the NEC in Glasgow in future

Moral of the story - carry spare bulbs!

Sorry your journey was so poor. It's astonishing that motorway service stations don't have anything in the way of car spares. There must be a business opportunity there!

We're going to the NEC tomorrow, and I had a look online about taking the train. The price? Nearly £90 return for the two of us - or about three times as much as it'll cost in fuel in the car.

The NEC this year was POOR.
Since we got home have a ongoing competion to remember all the things that we expected to be there but were missing.

We visited the NEC today and I honestly don't know what people are talking about when they critisise it for lacking exhibitors. The place was packed with product! There were loads of accessories! There are more caravans and motorhomes than you could shake a stick at!

I was far more impressed by the Pegasus than I expected to be (although there are still some howling errors in the design).

The Eldiss range really is as crap and overpriced as I expected it to be. The Swifts really do nothing for me at all.

And yes, the Stealth really is as hilariously ridiculous as everyone says!

But my message is - the NEC is buzzing! But then, I only go to a caravan show once every three or four years. If you're going more often, I imagine it's all very samey.

You obviuosly haven't been to the February show then. It is far better and larger with many more trade and tourist stands. I think the reason we thought that there were less caravans was probably because  Fleetwood and Avondale weren't there. Fleetwood were always worth a visit. Stealth certainly haven't taken their place!!!!

Glad you had a good time, Viggo.  Have decided to give it a miss though this year - thought I'd better not go and spend money I haven't got. 17   Although I would have liked to go to see the Stealth caravan - I do have a sense of humour!!

I have been to the Feb show - lots of boats to look at, which was nice but completely irrelevant. On my visit there were fewer accessories and sidestalls than at the current show.

I think it's all down to over-familiarity. Go to these things too often and they all start to look the same. Go only every few years and it's a novelty.

I went yesterday, it's definately not as big as last year - there were as many accessory stands, motorhomes, campervans, folding campers and trailer tents - but just less caravans.

I feel that the market is shifting - maybe because all the caravan manufacturers (that are left) seem to offer is increasingly bigger and heavier white boxes. Boring.

We would like to visit the NEC show next year but as I have now use elbow crutches constantly, it would be a killer to walk around.  Tried it earlier this year and I was totally exhausted before we had seen half the show.

Can one borrow or hire a mobility scooter to use at the NEC as we would really like to have a casual amble around at our leisure without having to get the back to the car because I am knackered?

I did see quite a few mob scooters but I have no idea if they had been hired at the NEC or if they had been brought in. I would think if you phoned up they would have the info.

Just back and have to say the range of caravans was not inspiring, there were however tons and tons of motorhomes and some good pop top and trailer tents.

Did get an awning which isn't even out yet a Movelite Pro 2010 which is just the ticket for our van but otherwise thought it was poor from a touring van viewpoint, I'm wondering if they are doing so well on their forecourts they don't need the expese of this and at 26k plus for a pitch there you can see why!

The accesories were okay but we have Towsure and a Go Outdoors in Sheffield so nowt much there for us.

Bailey looked like they were doing well.

surfer01: Info from the NEC website copied below, but some event organisers also have a limited number of their own mobility scooters for hire (very cheaply or free), so it's always worth contacting them before the NEC hire people. Have fun!

We went,it was'nt as good as previous years, but we won tickets on here so no complaints. We really like the Bailey Pegasus, 435 model will probably be our next van! In a year or two.

Looked at the Stealth, not impressed. Nice interior but a box with a black pointy bit on it and not enough windows in our opinion.
