On Sunday, we joined the growing ranks of those who ordered a new Pegasus at the NEC show. We're getting the 514 model (sorry, can't stand fixed beds - you lose half your living space).
There's a couple of things I missed though when we looked the van over so I'm hoping somebody else may have noticed.
Firstly, does it have lockable corner steadies (on our Elddis Crusader, you can insert locks in the rear steadies to block access to the winding mechanism).
Secondly, I'm not familiar with the Al-KO hitch system so I'd like to know if it can be fitted with a hitch lock (like the Winterhoff system on our van).
Many thanks
Oh, one more thing - did anyone happen to see if the wheels had lockable wheel nuts fitted

No problem with fitting a hitch lock. Alko have their own hitch lock to fit the hitch. The Pegasus comes with a AL-KO 3004 Hitch/Stabilizer, so you will need a lock to fit this. You can also fit an AL-KO wheel lock. Not sure if the hitch and wheel lock come with the van or whether you have to purchase them seperately. With most vans it's usually the latter, but you never know.
All Pegasus models are supplied with the Al-Ko Secure wheel lock so that's not an issue. They also have a Tracker system fitted with the first year's subscription paid, will just have to keep up the subscription.
I've done a bit of research and as the wheel lock covers one of the wheel nuts, the van is probably not fitted with the locking variety.
I'll get a hitch lock as I'm pretty sure that's not supplied. Oddly, the Al-Ko variety aren't listed on the Sold Secure site so they're probably not certified, even though some sellers say they are.
The Al-Ko hitchlock IS Sold Secure Gold certified - it's just that they list it on their web site as a stabiliser, not a hitchlock - sorry for the confusion
kev-rob, you're in the same position that my wife and I were in five years ago. After 20 years of tent camping, we'd had enough and yet wanted more, and took the plunge into caravanning.
One of the best decisions we've ever made!
I was surprised by how much I liked the interior of the Peggy when I actually got to see it (the photos don't do it justice). It's not perfect (such a thing doesn't exist) but it's pretty good.
You say you didn't get to the show ... but you have seen the caravan before ordering one, I imagine?
------------- * You never know where you're going 'til you get there...
You can buy an Al-Ko hitchlock for it from the dealer. I'm surprised these don't come as standard with the caravans but they don't. The stabilisers on the Pegasus are much bigger than those on our Pageant, we weren't told they were lockable when the dealer was showing us round the caravan though.
The Pegasus range must be on a dealers forecourt near you so you can check, I'm not certain how many variations there are in the Pegasus range but our local dealer has 9 Pegasus vans on show there & I've seen quite a lot heading up the motorways away from Bristol this week.
I think you have bought the best range of van on the market. It is possibly the greatest breakthru since the introduction of the original sprite. If the body design is as good as they say then they will last forever. I am not sure about the alko hitch though . I have had both alko and BPS (winterhof) and always struggled with getting the alko on and off the towball and was never sure it was properly attached. With the BPS as soon as you engaged there is a solid clunk and the lever moved to show it was engaged. I am sure ther will be lots of people shoot me down but it is my experiences. I dont know the layout of yours but now the kids have moved on a fixed bed is perfect for us.

We have just gone and had a crazy moment : we have ordered the Bailey Pegasus 514 too however we didnt get to the show
But after 20 years of tents, cold floors and airbeds and bucket this will be a luxury !
ps anyone fancy a 12mth old large (5 metre complete with sewn in groundsheet ) very clean Belltent ?
If you did see the model in the flesh please let me know that I have the right thing!
yep, they are a very nice van just hope they are put together a bit better than the last bailey we had.they appear to feel very solid and every pegasus we`ve been in hasnt had the furniture / floor creaking as you walk in the van unlike the pagaents / senators we had a look at.
Managed to have another look at one in a nearby dealer. Wasn't the 514 but underneath the skin, they are all very similar. Can't block access to the corner steady nuts like you can on the Elddis but you can buy locks that fit over the nut. I guess Bailey don't supply these or a hitchlock because perhaps they feel that the Alko wheel locks (supplied) supported by the inbuilt tracker device is enough.
Got a quick on-line insurance quote too. Our Elddis costs over £500 a year. The quote for the Peggy came out at £192 .
We now can't wait until January when we should at last get our hands on ours. The first thing we're going to do is a bit of weekend caravanning in the winter to put the claims for the Peggy's insulation to the test.
In the meantime, will trade in our DWT York awning for a smaller one to suit the Peggy (unless someone wants to buy said DWT - offers anyone )
