I'm thoroughly confused :-(

I've just tried plugging the tv in to the status aerial and the signal isn't good enough to pick up anything. We've just switched over to digital yesterday.

I have a mast aerial that we used with the tent. It used to pick up a signal even when we forgot the mast and stuffed in in the hedge so I guess it should do the job.

How do I use this in the caravan? There's something that looks like an aerial socket in the battery compartment. Do I just plug the aerial in this and switch the status aerial off?

We've got a Bailey Ranger 470/4 - 2000 model

Sorry to be so clueless :-(

we use our status and have always had a great piccy, however, at weekend we borrowed a lcd tv with built in freeview (we normally have a seperate digital box) we couldnt get a single picture using the built in freeview, but pluuged our digital box in, and once again got a great piccy, it maybe that digital boxes have some sort of booster fitted ??

I have never had huge success with my status aerial and yes I fing the "set top" type boxes are more successful than the LCD built ins.

We use a mast aerial which we attach to the jockey wheel on our caravan and just trail the lead through a (closed) window. This works brilliantly everywhere

Blond moment - we all get those daily, ok here's a blond question back, is your TV a digital one ie has it got a Freeview tuner or set top box for freeview? if it aint you wont get a signal if your area have switched over.

I am assuming that the Status aerial you are talking about is the "flying saucer" type and not the directional 530.

If this is the case then I would just like to point out that we had little or no luck with it on the last van. It made no difference whether the booster was switched on or not.
We took a small high gain aerial and a pole on every trip, and never bothered with the Status. Erecting it just become part of setting up when arriving on site.
Worked every time!

You may have done the same as me - not switched it on

If it is the UFO version, there is a box which the cable goes into from the roof and another cable goes out to the sockets in the van. On the bottom edge of that box (which is actually a signal booster) is an ON switch - if not switched on (red light shows) then you'll get nothing at all, even sitting outside Crystal Palace

If that is the case, don't forget to switch it off at the end of your trip otherwise you might drain your battery!

It's a tv with built in freeview.

The aerial is the UFO one and yes I did switch it on :-)

We'll have a go with the mast one at the weekend

The caravan's on the drive. The tv works fine indoors.

I have got a mast aerial - I just need to know how to plug it in :-) Is it a case of feeding the cable through the window or will it plug into the socket in the battery compartment and over-ride the saucer one?

the connection in the battery box should have a cable to a socket in the van,if can find that, you can plug the mast aerial into there and the D/box into the internal socket on just the TV into it,but you will need an aerial that pick up a digital signal.

Thanks Pete

The aerial I have should be fine - it picked up digital signal well this summer when we used it in the tent.

Nice to see it won't be wasted as well

I generally assume that people aren't as daft as us, but just in case .... for a long time we couldn't get a signal using our freeview TV plugged into our Status ariel. The message on the TV just said 'No Signal' all the time ! We were very disappointed and considered buying a mast ariel etc... Then we happened on this bit of software on the TV that said AUTO TUNING !!! Since then it's worked a treat ! Doh ! 17

If it's any comfort to you I am as daft as that but this was last year when I first bought the tv.

I was straight back to Maplins with my irate head on which I had to take off promptly when they told me how to work the tv.

There is two types of connecting the tv inlet found in the battery box. On some they have a digital connection next to the tv point however I will guess from what you have said so far yours it not like that.  In which case I have taken the words below from a Swift manual.  Hope this helps.

CARAVANS WITH TV INLET IN

BATTERY BOX

Models equipped with TV points in the

battery box can be attached to a pitch

facility:

1. Connect pitch output to input in battery

box being careful not to trap aerial lead

in battery box door.

2. At aerial booster position disconnect roof

aerial input lead and replace it with the

loose end of the cable from the battery

box. The internal TV point is now

connected to the battery box input.

Thank you so much - that's really helpful.

I'm just starting to pack up for our first trip away so I'll have a look at the cabling while I'm there
