if you are using a TV aerial it will nedd to be capable of picking up digital signals,I now use a satt/dish,Comag make the same as maplins/Aldi/and Lidl sell with a 17 inch LCD TV,I just set it up with the compass and satt finder to which satt I want IE Astra 1 / Astra 2 or Hotbird, takes about 5 mins and can get about min 250 channels,if children are using the TV make sure the child lock is on as some channels on all satts have adult programmes.I set mine up on a table in the awning but last week I noticed one on an upturned three armed clothes line which had been cut down and the lines removed,it worked perfect, looking at one myself now as David has said the propper tripods are expencive.

------------- Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.

Some people find it useful to adopt both routes.
I've been on sites where due to positioning, trees etc., the dish approach isn't suitable in which case I use an external TV aerial on a mast attached to the jockey. Alternatively, I've found sites where the digital signal is too weak, but the use of the dish has been possible.
As others have suggested, dish kits are available from a variety of outlets either in a collapsible dish 'cased' kit, or the likes of Screwfix do a very reasonable 'free-to-air' receiver and dish kit. Not difficult to set-up, but familiarise yourself with the kit first and you should find the satellite route works ok.
A "Standard Aerial" will work with Freeview depending on the area your in (the concert of 'digital only' aerials is a myth), but as you're undoubtedly travelling about, the best option I've found for aerial reception is the likes of the Grade branded aerial - see here. These are generally available from most caravanning outlets and work very well, plus comply with the 'wide-band' requirement for ground based digital TV reception.
PS: Link for the reasonable kit at Screwfix here, works very well.
