Hi everyone, haven't been on this site for ages, hope your all well?

Its bye bye to the scabby abbey soon! I've had a gut full of that van now. It was bad enough finding things not working in it but now the floor is wet grrrr. The heavy rain has been blowing against the door for wks now so i presume thats whats caused it. I'm fuming cause i had just had the upholstery and carpet cleaned and it was looking nice, all freshly painted inside too grrrrrr!

This is probably not the best time of year to sell a van but i want shot cause i've had enough now. Hubby's going to see what he can do with it first then we'll put it up for sale. I don't know what its worth now? Can anyone give me an idea what they would be willing to pay for it? For those that don't know about my van it is a 1990 Abbey Spectrum and has the following bad bits....

1. the back window is warped and leaves a centimetre gap (hasn't leaked into the van even with the bad rain???)

2. The back end of the van is slightly warped, a bit unsightly but no internal damage.

3.Some window stays are broken.

4. The water heater needs attention,

5. the bathroom is tatty and loo doesn't flush.

6. There are no curtains or blinds.

7. Bunk cushions are missing.

8. Oven needs attention but grill and hob work..

Doesn't sound too bad does it 171717.

What do you think then? £1200 maybe less?

£200?  To be honest with all that wrong and on such an old van it has very little value.  No bunk cushions - well new cushions don't come cheap that's for sure, you are talking £100s for those alone.  The other issues are all conducive to a wet van and you say the floor is wet where rain is coming in...... my parents scrapped a better van a few years ago!

I'm afraid I agree with Snowy747. Its nearly 20 years old, lots of problems with it.  We had to scrap our van that we had had for a year and paid a grand for it.  The service engineer told us that it was splaying out and so was not safe to tow.  Unfortunately we just had to take the loss as we couldn't sell it on and didn't dare tow it far. A shame though as it was lovely and dry inside not a bit of damp.  Hope you get more than a couple of hundred for it but I think its not very likely.  Good luck!

sorry to be bringing bad news but you aint got a prayer of getting a four figure sum for it.got to agree with other comments of around £200 to £300 particularly at this time of year.if you could do it up cheaply over winter and sell at spring you may get a bit more for it.

What do you mean? In what way is something not right, i bought a lemon in haste & am now honestly describing it and asking for opinions. I would have been quite happy to plod along with it, but the more things wrong i find the more sick i feel and just will never be happy in it no matter how good i get it looking if that makes sence?

Well theres nowt wrong with havin' a rant & all that that but I'm wondering if you should be namin' & shamin' thats all. The seller was selling an old caravan, by your own admission you didn't inspect the caravan & all this was back in August. It would have been different if he had been trying to hide summat but it appears all the faults you describe were there to see.

Anyway rightly or wrongy, you've done it now(named/shamed) All I can say is better luck with your next caravan!

hang on a minute here, he promiced me over the phone that everything was in working order and that the water heater was being fixed, i then find that he lied out of his a**! The only reason i'm naming and shaming him is because i've noticed he's selling another van (haven't looked on ebay at caravans for a long time) and i don't want anyone else falling for his lies. I'm not saying all his stock is rubbish, but there may well be more in future like mine. Unless you ask someone to test things there and then in front of you, your not going to know what your getting. Some of the lights didn't work either which i've sorted, but again i would not have known that on inspection unless the caravan was plugged into electric. Don't mean to have a go at you but i'm sure there are plenty of people on here who would like to be fore warned and thank me for it!

Hi lin, fear not i will be coming on a future meet, even if it means keeping the damn van, to hell am i selling it for £200 as suggested!! Caravans have gone for loads of money on ebay and the other ad sites in the summer. Even ones with things wrong with them have still fetched daft money. Hubby will see what he can do with the floor by the door and if its fixable we may well keep it, although i'd rather not.

Hows your van, are things still good with it? Did you enjoy the halloween meet? Hubby was supposed to start work in London then but it got put back until jan. We could have still gone in the end but finances were very tight because hubby had to scratch around for small jobs and wasn't earning much from them. Things are ok now though he's landed himself some well paid work until he goes to London.

They only sell for silly money because people don't check them out correctly and/or they are listed without revealing the faults.

You have told us what is wrong with the van, we've offered some opinions on its true worth!  If you advertise it as you have described it on here and somebody pays you more, they are either very foolish or very rich lol!

Stephysue - I can't help noticing that over this year you've mentioned looking at absolutely loads of vans, and also mentioned buying several, including 'bagging yourself' a  Swift Challenger, a Hobby which was unacceptable on sites, another (or the same) which was too big for your garden, and/or is this the Abbey that you're selling now???

From your previous postings about all the vans you've seen on ebay and bought for all the wrong reasons, and had to sell again, you should be more than experienced enough to know what this Abbey is worth.

You should also, by now, be experienced enough to decide about good and bad traders - and you'll know that if you describe the van honestly enough someone will be foolish enough to come along and buy it!

If it was in good condition it could be worth around £1000, but with all that wrong with it .........

Have you considered breaking it for spares?

After reading the description of your Abbey I dont think that the queue to buy will be too long!

Sounds like it is ripe for a chicken coup conversion!
