I am neither advocating nor criticising such an idea, but perhaps if you were the one to have your possessions stolen or the one that had been at the receiving end of a drunk's fist, perhaps you would be more inclined to agree that campsites are no longer the safe havens that they once were.

There was a time when one could go away all day and know that no matter what you left lying about would be there when you returned. That is no longer the case and chains and padlocks, even around things like water butts, are now the norm.

More and more caravan sites are ruined at the weekends by those who consider them to be the ideal place for the drunken party that they do not wish to hold "on their own doorstep", but have no consideration for other campers.

As people's attitudes to "proper and acceptable behaviour" changes, so too must steps also change to protect the innocent and if that means a "big brother" attitude, then so be it.

I would be more inclined to give up camping/caravanning because I got my possessions stolen or got beaten up than I would because some site owner could, if he wished, peer into my awning to see me doing whatever in there.

Doesn't bother me too much as I have nothing to hide. Our seasonal pitch in the New Forest has it covering the front gate at least for security.

A site we have used in Cornwall has it installed since they were sued after a camper fell off a swing seat in the middle of the dog field!

Pull the curtains?  Won't be able to see a thing then!

it will be a sad day for camping/caravanning if theres cctv watching every move on site. we  already have more cctv than any other country apparently. fine, have it on reception, site entrances etc but to use it to peer into peoples property is wrong and i thought illegal? if you have cctv at your home its not supposed to cover anybody elses property..

why cant we just sort out our screwed up society and do away with the need for extra security in the first place?? 

It wouldnt bother me at all if they have nothing better to do !!!!!

on a plus note for cctv  my cousins hubby fell over and hi tthe back of his head (required major brain surgery) cctv saw it happen and were able to call emergency services to assist him had they not seen him fall he would not be with us today

I note the ironic wink, so I trust you've not got barking mad and actually believe that.

The tape qualitiy is invariably not up to standard for a successful prosecution anyway. Just another intrussion in the lives of innocent people. The "If you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to fear" argument is not valid. These cameras are not reducing crime to any significant degree.
