Hi Everyone and Happy New Year for tomorrow.
I'm looking for a new 12 volt TV for the caravan and I've been attracted to the 20" Meos LCD with built in Freeview & DVD. However, I'm wary of buying a make I don't know. Has anyone any experience of this TV brand, reliability, quality, etc...?
Thanks in advance.

Is there a reason why you specifically want a 12v TV, i.e. only use non-EHU sites? If not, 220v is a lot cheaper.

Yes, up to now we have used a LCD TV on EHU sites. However, we now want to have the choice of using non-EHU CL's and although I have an inverter which I have used several times in the past, its efficiency is less than that of using a 12 volt TV directly.

If you are going to use non EHU sites a lot, then it may be worth investing in a good quality TV, if not, you may find that a B/W portable will suffice.
The other option is to purchase a laptop with a TV tuner and this will serve a dual purpose and can be charged using the car or a solar panel.

There have been post on here in the past where they went to for example Comet and looked at normal LCD TV,s only to find thay had an external power supply for the mains but were in fact 12Volt at the end of the day. Maybe you should look at a local wearhouse type of shop.

Hi Arturo
We have had the Meos 20 " for over a year now. Very good picture quality and simple to set up and use. The TV wobbles a bit if using just the stand but careful wedging prevents this. With the meos and our 12v satellite system we are well prepared !!!
Happy New Year to everyone reading this.

The 20" uses 40W which is a fair bit to run off battery. That's 3.3A.
The 15.4" uses 20W.

We have a Meos and it is very good although using the Freeview very much depends on the area. We very often find the signal strength is quite weak so poor rerception. I am considering investing in some kind of signal booster and would welcome any advice from anyone who has had the same problem

Hi General
Obviously it depends on the area as to signal strength but we have an ordinary aerial and pole in case the new triangular-shaped status aerial isn't good enough.
However, the problem is the same with most built-in tuners, they don't seem to match the 'strength' of a separate freeview box. But thanks to you and the Vicar for your comments on the Meos, I feel a bit more confident in getting one now.
I know that 40 Watts is quite high, but we have two separate batteries that we will be taking with us, as well as the 110ah caravan battery. Also, a lot of CL's have battery-charging facilities.

I have seen Meos but don't know much about them - don't think it really matters these days. I have had very good service out of unknown brands.
These are expensive TVs in my view though. We use an lcd 15.4" with built in dvd from argos at £100.
I dropped the last one - I would have been well displeased if I had paid over £200 for it.

Tesco have a tv/ DVD/ digital in, i think it's a 15inch but it has a hole in the side hats for a plug & it says 12 volt. I'm going to have a look to check if there's a 12volt plug inside . It's only about £180 which is a lot better than the prices I've seen in camping shops.

Trouble is, I need a 19/20" TV (in my case size matters!) a 15" is too small for us.
Looking at the Meos it seems to have everything else I need including card reader and USB input as well as multi-region DVD. The USB input allows you to attach, say an external hard drive (I have a 120GB pocket one) and use the TV as a recorder also.

The bigger the screen the more juice it is going to use resulting in a battery running flat a lot quicker.
