When on site, I have noticed that some vans have draught skirts in place on both sides of the van, especially ones on seasonal pitches. Can anyone tell me why?
A bit of shelter to allow undervan storage of things of low value whilst on site?
We have seen a few doggies who have been trained to sleep under the caravan at night, and the draught skirt would allow them a little more protection from the elements.

If a van is parked for a long period of time, it is wise to cover the tyres to protect them from the sunlight. If you are covering the tyres, you may as well go the whole hog and put the skirt right around the van, thus, as has already been mentioned, creating a "basement" storage area.

Not a very secure area though. But then neither is an awning when you come to think of it.
When you can open most vans with a Tinopener, what is?
Too right lobey. While we're out I just sit the mother in law in the window with a bottle of red wine. The way it dribbles down her chin when she's had too much makes her look like the bride of frankenstein. We've had no bother up to now

S'cuse my ignorance but the only floor vent we have is to the gas locker and that is sealed from the inside of the van.
What floor vents do you have that would allow any wind to cause a draught inside the van?
I only have the one in my little Kip van, Lobey. But my sister's caravan had them in every locker and the sink/cooker cabinet, the bathroom,,,, all the way down one side of the caravan practically. You couldn't half tell which way the wind was blowing if it was on that side of the caravan!
My sis ended up putting masking tape over all but the one in the cooker bit for a few days until the wind dropped at one site we stayed on.
There should be one floor vent to the outside somewhere in the van itself to allow any gas leaks from appliances/hoses to escape. Both butane and propane are heavier than air and therefore any leaking gas will have dropped down towards the ground.
Thankfully in my van we only have one gas unit and that is the 2 ring burner. Everything else, including the fridge is 12v or mains (water heater and battery charger). All the cylinders and pipework is within a sealed locker.
So instead of vents beneath the floor, we have 4 underfloor lockers. Less draughty and more useful for us.
