Due to the economic downturn and sites being priced out of our reach at present, we were considering doing rallies with the CC and perhaps other organisations to save some money.
I have just looked at the CC Gloucestershire Rally website and to my amazement they have 11 committee members. Isn't this a bit of an overkill? Why do they need so many members on the committee. Is it to police you according to their regualtions etc. Are all CC centres like this?
I think that is enough to put us off rallying with the CC as I guess it applies to all CC rallies as every one wants to be a little Hitler. Please tell us that we are wrong.

We don't do CC Centre rallies, but I can tell you something about committees.  Generally, it isn't some kind of power trip.  To run any event, there's an incredible amount of organisation to be done.  This invariably ends up being done solely by the committe members, so it's a question of the more the merrier.

Many hands make light work. It's sad, but true, members usually don't want to help with the organisational side of things, so it all falls on the shoulders of the committee.

I don't think Hitler comes into it.

I organised a ukcampsite meet and never had any issues and managed on my own. So still not sure what is required for a get together that requires 11 committe members.

How many were at that meeting?  What kind of events did you arrange?  What about publicity?  How did you manage to signpost the route and send people directions?  Who was responsible for security?

If you organise an event, you have to take responsibility for all this, and a lot more.

However, if the idea of 11 Hitlers bothers you, the simple solution is not to attend.  It's not compulsory.

Only about 16 units. Why arrange events anyway? All that was organised was a BBQ in the evening as we did not want to regiment peoples lives with events etc. If people cannot find their way to a rally then they shoudl nto be driving as there are plenty of maps available and even satnav. Why should any member be concerned about security. Do they worry about security when on a site like a CS or CL?
I think you are right as it will eb a non starter for us with all these regulations and little hitlers jumping on the band wagon.
Thanks for the excellent advice. We will steer well clear ot CC rallies. Rather stick to simple meets and not over organised and regimented rallies etc.

looking at committees for a rally, eleven members does not seem a lot to me, when you count the Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice Chairman, rally Secretary, plus the very willing helpers, who are all prepared to work for the members and arrange a enjoyable rally, just because they are on the committee does not mean that you have as you put it "11 hitlers " running the show.

I guess that a lot of the committee are working behind the scenes doing the tasks of organising.

If you dont want to have fun and want to be by yourselves then dont attent a rally. We run rallys and the more help the better things take a lot of organgising i.e. food and entertantment. And no we are not little Hitlers but we do try and make sure thing are safe and fun and that people dont upset other people with lots of noise ect.

Just because there are 11 committee members doesn't mean they will all attend all rallies.  It is usually 1 set of rally officers and another set helpng out, especially on larger rallies.

Surfer01 - sounds like you knew it wasn't for you even before you posted this!

Personally, I don't think rallies are for us either, but each to their own - I know a number of people who get a lot of pleasure meeting up with friends this way.

Live and let live!

Due to the economic downturn and sites being priced out of our reach at present,

Why not go to 5 van sites instead? The CC rallies do not really appeal to me, but we have tried the holidays sites which we found very good value, and we were left to join in or not, up to us.  This year we are mainly going to 5 van sites as we feel these offer what we want, and at a price we are prepared to pay.

I think they are lucky to have 11 members on their committee - a lot of organisations have awful trouble getting committee members at all and often struggle with 5 or 6!
