Hi all.Does anyone keep a momento or a little Keepsake from each of the vans you own before you sell them on? We kept the clock out of our swift rapide last year(as it was the only thing not damp).Just wondering if anyone else is sentimental like us.

I haven't changed my caravan yet but I do that with cars. I've still got the chevron badge out of a Citroen I had about 30 years ago but mostly it's the number plates (not that I sell them without number plates but I've got personal plates so change them back to the original number).

Not sentimental at all, just laughing at your insinuation that Swifts of a certain age are sponges!
Thinking back, the only thing not damp about mine when I sold it was the clock!

Ahhh...

So that is the reason my last van had no clock, no badges, missing tap and was bereft a loo seat...

The first half decent caravan we bought was a 1992 Elddis and it had 2 little violins and 2 butterflies made of feathers stuck to the lockers. We have the violins in our new van, but the butterflies fell to bits.

I kept the original 6 Champagne flutes that came with a Special edition 1988 Ace Jubilee Glboetrotter, My parents had the van from brand new then gave it to us when they upgraded, we only had the van for 2 years and outgrew it but I kept the glasses for the memory, I rememeber there was a posh drinks cabinet with them in and the original "Ace" logo printed on.

They sound really good and well worth keeping gazmister. The only drinking vessel left in ours when we had it was an 'I Love Rhyl' mug.

I used to wonder where our 1st van had been in the 10 years before we had her so with the new one I'm going to keep a diary of dates & places & leave a copy in one of her drawers for her next owners when she eventually moves on.

Love the idea of 'Biggles the Bear' being the van mascot - may have to look for something for ours.

Our first van in 1965 was a 1956 Car Cruiser Clubman & though we never joined the owners club we still display their badge - even declined an offer to buy it last year.

The number may well have had a 1 prefixed to it by now, but may well still be in existance, try 0161 483870, you never know your luck!

We still have the steady winder from our old Coachman, mainly because its the type with a spinning knob and mid grip on it to help prevent any friction on your hands as you wind. We also have a few dozen Rally Plaques gained over the years, although we havent yet Rallied with this van.

Sometimes we sit outside looking at the few small dints on our side panels and wondering how they got there in the three years prior to us owning our van, although a few are obviously stone chips, we also have a bit of a faint line where it looks like someones car door blew back and onto the side of the van, and a bit of a twist in the front second awning channel edge that looks like it was caused by a Tv ariel bracket, but we are too scared of what possible horror stories we may hear if we were to contact the old owners, who had left their details on a reciept tucked away in the back of a draw when we bought her, despite this being via a dealer.

My first van (the ABI starlet) had some old tiles that had been mounted onto cork backing to turn them into what can only be described as small trivet stands - perfect for putting anything hot on. I'm waiting for my new van (due on Saturday whoop whoop) but I kept em out of the Starlet. They are old fashioned adverts - one is for Brasso and I can't remember the other one - but like the old fashioned 60's adverts.
