that will be one of those laws they cant police like the different speed limits for van drivers.i know a couple of bobbys who didnt know there is a lower speed limit for vans.doubt they will know about mirrors.

I have been aware of this e mark on 'towing' mirrors for a long time but didn't think it was relelvant to 'car' fixed mirrors! We use Milenco Aero mirros and purchased them when we bought our caravan in 2007. They have the 'e' mark so this isn't so new!

My mirrors are so old old that they hadn't invented the alphabet when I bought them!

I have absolutely no intention of buying a new set just to get an "E" stamped on them. They suit my needs perfectly and have fitted at least 5 cars.

It will only apply to thouse they buy a new tow car, they won't legally be able to use old extension mirrors without the "E" mark. Needs to be a 2010 car I think.

There was a long discussion on this last year, should be able to find with the search.

The thing is...if you go and buy a new car and the dealer said that it didn't conform to the current Construction and Use Regulations so it is illegal to use it on a road would you buy it? No. Well, if you do change your car from this year the same principle applies to other elements of that new car which need to comply with Regs.

Just need to be aware and if you don't want to buy new mirrors then balance the cost of the mirrors against 3 points and up to a £1000 fine. Worse still, at a spot check (which they do do every now and again) possibly being prohibited from driving your caravan away on holiday because the mirrors do not comply with Current Construction and Use Regs.

Can you please tell me then. Phil, what the difference is between a mirror with an "E" on it and one that hasn't got one? They are an extension to the existing mirrors on the car, they are made of glass and they have a silver backing. They fix to the mirror with elastic and they have never fallen off. Unlike one I bought a while ago, one of which flew off although it was fixed correctly.

Sick to death of these b---dy silly regulations just so that mirror manufacturers make more money.

Think your comparison between cars is a bit over the top! I presume that my 2009 vehicle doesn't have to have new mirrors then according to the rules.

John, as you say, it does not apply to your car but we all can have opinions on any law, the point is it is illigal to break and can result in fines and points on licence. If you are spending many thousands on a new car seems silly to ignore the law for the small additional cost of getting mirrors that meet the regulations.
