We are going to talk to the dealer tomorrow but would like to hear suggestions from users of movers first.  Had a Powertouch fitted in March and battery was green but several days ago checked out the caravan for the start of the season and the battery that had been green was on two yellow lights. OH connected up to electric for two days and checked and it was back to green.  Just checked again after another two days back to  two yellow.  Had electric on for two nights again and from 9am til 4pm today it has gone to two yellow lights again.

The isolator has been turned off and the handset was switched off.  Reading the booklet it states that press D to turn off handset and press D+ seconds to turn off control box.  Now I didn't do that bit re control box (didn't rememember) and OH says if isolator is turned off it can't drain the battery.

The battery is a year old, are we leaving it on electric long enough as it does go green.

What do you think please.

OH is right imo, the isolator should stop any drain to the mover at source. It sounds like either a) The battery is faulty or b) There is drain somewhere on the DC circuit. Battery fault would be my favourite.

check fridge controls if a new type as these can drain battery also aerial booster.also if the alarm built in battery is down it will take power from the main battery.if the isolator is off then no power can be drawn.

I really cannot comment on your particular make of Mover, but we did find last year that ours which is a Reich make, will take some power from the main battery, even when the isolator switch is turned off. We were advised by the dealer to keep the battery topped up to at least 11volts, which luckily for us is not really a problem as we are able to do this at home, and we use 99% of sites with an Ehu anyway so we do remain fairly consistantly in the green.

Im not sure if its the Mover or the caravans charging system, but we find that if our battery does go fairly low of charge then it will blow a fuse in the circuit box and trip out the system to prevent the battery from becoming totally drained and unable to recharge properly.

If its only been two days since the last charge, it is unlikely to be anything which just requires a small current to operate, ie the mover in standby (ie not turning the motors),an alarm or the TV booster.

Sounds like the battery. Easy way to check. Charge as before, then disconnect one side of the battery and leave for 2 days, If it is back in the yellow then the battery is the chief suspect. Have you topped up the water level in the battery?

In my opinion once the isolator switch is turned off no current can pass through it unless it`s a faulty switch or it has some metal swarf in it, I`d go for a faulty battery or some other drain in the caravan system

Do you have microswitches on your taps? Could be a tap not turned off properly and the pump is running 24/7. I have a powrtouch (older model 3) and their is no power to it at all when the isolator is off. I have taken the precaution of putting a switch to isolate all the van's 12 volt electrics separately so that I do not need to disconnect the battery terminals after every use.

Hi Carolbay

You need to hook up a multi meter to your battery's positive teminal and do an in line current draw test.

Remove the positive lead then place the negative multi meter lead on the positive battery terminal then hold the positive multi meter lead onto the lead that you've disconnected from the battery. Turn the muti meter selector to read dc amps and you will get a reading if there is a current draw. If there is no draw it looks as though your battery may be on it's way out.

When you charge the battery it will go up to 13.8volts stright away and stay there all the time its being charged. When taken off charge, it will slowly fall to 12.7volts if fully charged. However, because a caravan charger doesn't apply enough voltage, the battery never charges fully. It's more likely the battery will fall to about 12.4volts after charging, indicating it's only 75% charged. It will take several hours to fall to this level.  I'm not sure where the yellow section is on your voltmeter.

Thanks everyone for your help.  Well we have quite a few things to mull over.  Don't think we left any taps on as we have not heard the pump running.  OH at skittles so will check that in the morning.  Will get a multi meter as that sounds a handy piece of kit to have.  Also did not know about the caravan charger not getting the battery to much over 12.4.

Cheers

a fully charged battery is 12.7 volts.

see looking after your battery.

An update.  After several days of charging the battery to show full then leaving it for hours and still showing full, every time it was connected to the caravan after a few hours showed two yellow lights.  Frustration or what!  Anyhow OH had been charging it on fast charge and decided to try slow charge and fingers crossed it was green, in caravan was green and so far has STAYED green.  So worth trying if anyone else gets this problem.

Cheers

The slow charge is a good idea. Too fast a charge means that only the plate and electolyte at the interface of plate and electrolyte charges. In time this charge dissipates to the surrounding material resulting in a much lower average charge. A slow charge allows it to dissipate as it charges.

There was a thread on here once before about this. We've got a problem with our new caravan draining the battery too. It tands to happen over about a 4 to 5 week period. The only thing I found left on in the van was the Arial booster, would this drain a 110amp battery in 4 to 5 weeks??

I've got the battery off the van now & sitting in my garage on a rubber mat, the van's in for its first service in 4 weeks time & I'll need to charge it for then so I can use the mover to get it off the drive.

I've never seen the instructions as mentioned in this thread about turning off the mover control box by pressing buttons on the remote though.

O B****y H**L  The battery swith on the wardrobe wall still goes to 2 yellow lights but the battery when put on main charge is full.  So we are now thinking it is the actual bvattery indicator  switch.  Another trip to the dealers!!!
