Were off out to Clumber Park today and this is on the way so maybe going to see it if I can get hold of the seller.
My only niggle with it is it has no oven, but does come with an electric oven, but to be honest with the cadac and the hob I'm sure we could get by.
Any ideas of what a van of this age and spec should be going for and any pointers of what to ask look for ???

to be honest with you i think its almost at its limit money wise. i sugest you keep your eyes open in supermarkets and the local papers as you will get a better bargain in there rather than on ebay or even look on preloved

which from what Ive been looking at doesnt seem like too bad a price! What makes you think its reached its limit?

its age for a start and the fact that its got £1000 on it and a reserve, and the fact that i have bought one hell of a lot of vans over the last few years to get the one we have now and know a bargain when i see it and that isnt im afraid to say
Its so frustrating trying to find a van that we can afford with only £2500. What sort of age do you reckon we should be looking at at that price bearing in mind we need a 4 berth and would like the awning to come with it?

i hope you dont think i was being off hand with you but at that age youwont have a cris number that you can check on beofre handing over your cash so would you really hand over £2000 with no way of knowing if it was stolen or not?
Too be honest we are total newbies to vanning so all advice welcome and no I dont think you are being off hand!!
Do the cris numbers stop being checkable after so long, not sure how they work?
Afraid with our very limited budget that sort of age seems to be what were looking at!

I see that a 1995 Shamel on the net from a dealer is at £2995 without the additional equipment this one has. I can see that £2000 maybe at the top end but then if the quality is good maybe it should be up there. Remember its an auction so you could have a chance with a number of bids...anyway....once you've seen it you will know.
These folk are down your way and maybe they would carry out a damp test and give you a price for any remedial work (if any)

cris came into being in 1993 and altho it dont stop theft etc it does give you some safe guard on the vans history. just remember that while your newbies its easy to get carried away and end up paying well over what the van is worth, i.e. they see you coming!!!
you budget itsnt limited at all at that amount, its just the places that your looking thats all as on ebay everybody is out for getting the most they can get and then you get daft sods paying it!!!!
Good advice as always we'll def go and see it before I discard it. But what I didnt understand was why damtnet thought I wouldnt be able to do a CRIS check do they only keep numbers in their system for so long?
Damtnet thanks for the link will also consider that one too though it does seem to have quite a few little dents!!

CRiS is from 1992 though so this van should have a CRiS number with N in it.
Looked again at the Abi Viceroy and afraid its a no for us as one of my MUSTS is a proper toilet!!!!

they cant do a check if the van is older than 1993 because the system didnt exsist before then, and in its infancy it was purely a volentary thing so not all vans where registered at that time.
All caravans manufactured since 1992 by NCC members are registered on the CRiS database by a unique 17 digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). This VIN and the caravan description are recorded on a Touring Caravan Registration Document which is sent to the caravan's registered keeper.
am still confused about CRiS this was on their website and surely if the van has a number etched onto window then its checkable isnt it????
I need a Caravan fairy to find me a non damp lovely van!!!
