Hi, could anyone please let me if they have had issues trying to insure twin axle caravans or problems with storage sites wanting extra storage costs? Or does it not make any difference at all ie some models are the same but on single or twin axle and just slightly longer if that makes sense?
we changed from an avante 534 to a wyoming twin axle and it was only around £40 a year more to insue,5 years newer as well, that was through the CC at the time.

we have a twin axle never any problems and storage was mor but we aere aware of this before we purchased it and insurance was £30 more than our old van
We changed to a twin-axle last year and have not had any problems getting on sites. The storage is a little dearer because we pay per foot. This is our first insurance policy so not sure if it is more expensive or not.
Nice big fridge, loads of room and a fixed bed, luvvly jubbly.
I have noticed on some reviews that some foreign sites may be a problem with larger vans. We are going to France for the first time with Twin-Axle this year so will find out.
I think that's only because of the size of some of the pitches in France, we arrived at one site and were asked to go to their sister site for this reason, but got on 14 other sites with no problem.

I have read that some sites cannot or do not accept twin axles, alot of CS/CL's refuse them and those that do accept them charge premium rates.
Thats due to the size of them and that apparently they chew the grass up if its wet?
Never had any problems on a CL, most do not even ask the size of the van. Never been charged extra in UK either.

Anne
Pitch size and access problems are the 2 main reasons.
2 sites we went to were dubious about access so made us walk round first to be sure, but it was fine.
One site tried to charge us extra, even though it was an ACSI card site and there should be no extra charge. Their facilities were rubbish too, so we went elsewhere and reported them to ACSI.
Some sites are wary due to "travellers" using twin axles, but with a UK van and car you are more likely to be accepted.
Some sites have a size limit in high season, whether you are a twin or a single.
Our TWIN AXLE IS SHORTER THAN SOME SINGLE AXLE vans and no we never been charged extra. The only time I have been asked if it is a twin is on the C.C. online booking form but that does not make any difference you are also asked your length the same for single of twin axle vans.
I vaguely remember seeing in a site on here somwhere??? saing NO TWIN AXELS or vans over 1600kgs,but there was no restrictions for M/homes,did not make sence rearly as M/homes are nearly always twice and more the weight af vans.

Pete.
Our insurance company, Caravanwise, stopped insuring twinaxles several years. doesn't affect us as we only have a single. I think it's because many more twins are stolen than singles.
We have just moved over to a twin axel - I got insurance from E & L which was far cheaper than CC - even with member discount! to be honest there was little cost difference from the single axel to twin. Storage is by the foot so I am anticipating a slight increase in my monthly fee when I take it back there next week.
