We went to look at some Lunar caravans at Kenmore Caravans at Mirfield today. They didn't have many there though and not the model we wanted to look at (even though their website said there was one on site).

What are peoples' experiences of 2010 Lunar caravans (or Kenmore Caravans as dealers). We were very impressed and we haven't said that about any other British built caravans over the years!

I'd appreciate any feed back from Lunar owners. Many thanks

I have the Lunar 546 2010 model. The layout works for us..with 3 bunks separate shower/toilet. small end diner.

I bought it from Pleasuretime Caravans in Castleford.

The service I had was good - best part-ex value for my old van (but that was a Lunar too).

The van - I have used twice this year once on a short weekend..that was a bit troublesome as we bought our van early in the year. Although the dealer did go through how to use ultrastore etc..I couldn't quite remember when we first used. Our old van was 1994 model so lots were different.
Last time out we had a week's hols with not problems.
To date I have not found any teeth problems.

Kenmore have had a good reputation for a very long time, my last van came from their and their service has been excellent, but thet aren`t the cheapest.

I bought a Lunar from Pleasuretime about 20 years ago (its still in the same hands), and also had no complaints.

Thanks all for your replies. Kenmore would be easy for us as we use storage in Huddersfield and they say they can collect for service etc.

Does anyone know if you can buy a Lunar caravan from any dealer and have it serviced under warranty at a different dealer. I believe this is possible for Baily caravans, is it the same for other manufacturers?

I have today brought my 2009 Lexon SI from the dealers after its first service.Apart from the service there was (I thought) some warranty work to be carried out!
-The fridge door needed adjustment to stop it opening en route- which they did.
-The semi circular shower door catch wouldnt stop the door from sliding about when towing so I put tape to hold it . The door fell totally off its runners into the van even when fastened. The dealer said there was nothing wromg with it - no action.
-The blown air heating is no good for winter caravaning. There is a continuous blast of cold air from vents especially under the fridge and the blown air was almost devoid of heat. The dealer said it had been tested and found to be OK.(My son's 14 year old Sterling Europa's blown air was really warm on a lower setting when away at the same time.)I was advised on here to put some insulation on the pipes which in Lunar vans are almost entirely outside and obviously cool down rapidly in the cold when you need it most.I will have to do this myself and have bought the tape.
-The drawer above the fire got really hot and warped. This is now subject to a warranty claim to be made by the dealer.
-The sealant down one(out)side of the van had mould showing through it. The dealer said it was only cosmetic and not leaking so was not under warranty. After much remonstrating in front of customers he ran the sealant gun down over the existing seal.I understand that this mould occurs when they seal on top of damp.
-Some sealant in the washroom had come away .This was rectified.
We really like the van and the shower is the best we have ever had in 30 + years. We hope that the shower door was a one off but we are really concerned about the blown air heating as we do use the van in winter.I have tried to keep these comments as factual and accurate as possible without exaggeration or subjective comments.(My wife says I am not to put you off!) As I say above the blown air is my main worry and I saw at the last show that, unlike other brands, nearly all Lunars still have the pipes outside.
I hope this helps.

I have just seen you second posting .
I bought ours from a dealer based in Preston at the Caravan show.I was concerned about service/warranty and not wanting to take it a long way for this work and I was told that the service and warranty work could be carried out by any NCC(?) workshop or dealer. Afterwards I found out that Derby Caravans, who are fairly local, had become Lunar dealers so I took it there.
I did speak to Lunar about my concern about the blown air and they said speak to the dealer from which it was bought. When I told them I wanted to use Derby Caravans they said the warranty was with the Preston firm and Derby Caravans would have to negotiate with them about warranty work.

Thank you all for these comments. The heating issue is a concern as we also use our caravan during the winter. We are just at the beginning of our search for a new caravan (post kids era!) and hubby is rather tempted with the Clubman SI which has Alde heating I know nothing about this system and whether it is a better than the usual gas fire system. If anyone has this and can compare the 2 systms, your comments would be appreciated.

MisterG, when you say the pipes are on the outside, i can't understand where the pipes are? On our Adria the pipes run around the side of the caravan but how can they run outside? Please don't 'beat about the bush', i want to know what issues Lunar owners have had before deciding on our next van! On this forum lots of manufacturers' problems have been discussed but when searching i couldn't find anything about Lunar - i thought this was too good to be true? If there is anything else i need to know, please don't be shy! Where have you had your service/ warranty work carried out, Preston or Derby?

We bought our Lunar secondhand from Don Amotts out at Eggington, but found them to be quite expensive when it came to having to pay for things once our 6 month warantee had ran out, So we swopped over to Robinsons of Chesterfied who are also Lunar main dealers and we have found them to be quite good, they have recently fitted our Motor mover at a much better price than quoted at many other places we tried, and dont have the red tape attitude regards fully emptying your caravan before any work can be carried out the same as Amotts did. i also quite like the fact that with Robinsons when you go back to collect it after the completion of any work, you get to speak to the guy whos worked on it, not a young girl on reception desk that hasnt got a clue whats been done and how, other than what is written on the jobsheet, resulting on several return trips to resolve the same problem.

However, I happen to know that Robinsons wont accept other Lunar caravans for warantee work that were not purchased from them, from the times i have been in their office when the phone has rang, and they have told this loud and clear to the person enquiring. Im not so sure about Derby Caravans still being a Lunar main dealer, i took a look around their yard a few weeks ago and apart from a few vans in and waiting for repair, and a few elderly secondhand ones, there wasnt any sign of any brand new stock for sale, and its certainly not the main dealership it once was when they had the showrooms out on the main London road, where i did buy 3 of my previous vans from in the past.

Small world here mister g, my husband and his family were all Wirksworth born and bred, and we still have quite a few family members living there now!

We are new to caravanning and bought our first caravan last October. It's a 2007 Lunar Solaris.

We love it, although we have no direct comparison, only what we have seen in the showrooms.

I will say though, the heating was a bit of a disappointment when we were away in the snow. The blowers often don't seem to blow "hot" air and there is a terrible draught from the vents under the seats and the bed (at floor level). So much so, that I had to go and buy a pair of those "bootie" slippers that are all the fashion just to keep my ankles and feet warm.

I thinjk I will have to buy the dogs "beds" with sides on rather than their usual mats for night time.

I'm not sure whether we just are not using the heating correctly, but the rest of the van is warm, just the floor area that is cold

We today looked at a 2010 Lunar Clubman which has the Alde heating, and we fell in love with it! This sounds as if it should perform better than the standard gas fire and blow air heating.

Heating seems to be an issue with Lunar caravans which are generally very good and well built.

Recently purchased a new Lunar Stellar, same spec etc as the Lexon.

Very impressed with the quality and build quality. No problems to report as yet and the heating has hardly been used on our first couple of outings.

The pipes carrying the warm air from the fire/heater drop from under the fire through the floor and are clipped to the underside of the floor and re-enter the van through the floor near the outlet vents in the van.Same for the pipes going to the rear. It appears obvious to me that in cold weather ie when you need the heating ,the air is cooled as it passes outside in the cold air. This is exacerbated by cold blasts of air blowing in from various area especially under the fridge .Like another contributor to this thread ,we found our feet were icy cold . The fire was on both gas and electr
ic so the air at the roof was very hot and icy cold under foot. I mentioned this problem on this forum some time ago and was advised to insulate the outside pipes which I will now try having been knocked back by the dealer.I looked at a lot of vans at the last show and the only ones with outside pipes were Lunars.
The dealer who did the service was Derby Caravans.I have bought several new vans over many caravaning years and the only guarantee is that it takes a long and hard battle to get work of any substance under warranty .
I looked at Robinsons like Romany girl when buying the new van but their price was nearly $2k higher .

Joecroft 2 - did your Lunar have the outside pipes for blown air?
I have tried to stick to facts rather than heat of the moment whinging but it is clear that warranty is hard to pin down and vans with blown air heating are not suitable for winter use - its probably warmer in a tent.I have always felt that van designers know little about their customers.
One final moan - I was flagged down on the way home to be told the large Heiki roof window had been left open. and standing at 90 degrees to the roof.
RomanyGirl - we both were from Cromford originally but moved here 35 years ago for the house. My wife attended Anthony Gell school.
