Hi Wenz, you do need chemicals and yes Halfords sell it (well the one by me does), have a great first outing with many more to come.

Yes Halfords sell the chemicals - normally pink for the flush and blue for the holding tank The bottles come with the instructions to use. Think you might find that millets sell them as well (small quantities may be expensive though)

If the campsite you are going to has a shop then they may possibly sell it as well

Yes Halfords will sell Aqua Kem and Aqa Rinse. There are other products on the market however. You would dilute the blue/green Aqua Kem and pink Rinse fluids in the proportion indicated on the bottle. One Chem is another fluid out there and that does the job of both fluids. The pink fluid makes the flush water smell nice it doesn't do a lot else. You should use both fluids as directed on the bottles

Some campsites insist on green tank fluid for environmental reasons. you'd best find out what your site expects before you buy some.

I think the top tank thing is a bit of a con, probably the same as standard toilet cleaner but treble the price.

I wonder if its ok for the Brewers Yeast to come from the results of drinking many pints of real ale?

Perhaps not........

I would avoid buying Thetford branded chemicals, particularly the Thetford Pink as it seems to be one of the most common things attributed to "black bits"

On a thread about this some while back someone said that if you put the pink stuff in the toilet flush compartment you will get black bits in the pan when you flush the toilet (generates some sort of algae or something similar).  We had that problem and I stopped using the pink stuff and its sorted.  Doesn't seem any different not using it. I would not if I were you.

I always use the elsan pink with no problems, when we used to use the thetford stuff, had the problem after the first couple of uses.

I find the pink does stop "bits" sticking to the bowl.
