We are just about to buy one of these vans. The price is pretty good at £3K and the van is in top clas condition. We are coming from a tent, so basic is still luxury for us.
Does anyone have an Adria Altea of this vintage? I have read many revies etc of more modern vans, but nothing for this age. The door is on the wrong side, but I don't think that will matter too much to us, but will it matter to the campsite owners? Also have heard that they can be difficult to insure. Anyone got any suggestions as to where to get insurance?
Any othe tips would be much appreciated. We will be towing with a Zafira 1.8 16v, hence need for light van.
We have had the 2005 version of your van for a couple of years having bought it second hand and we love it. There are 5 of us and it's been great. The door is on the 'right' side on our van but I have seen previous threads on here and elsewhere where owners have turned the vans around to match others on site, either on their own or with the campsite owners help. I've not seen/heard of anyone being denied access due to door placement at all.
We came from a tent as well and I'm not sure we'd ever go back, especially once you stick an awning on the side...luxury! We towed with a Fiat Multipla so I would have thought the Zafira would be fine but you can check here
Good luck

Thanks for your help. The loaded weight of the van is less than 80% of the car weight, so we are OK with that. I can't wait to get out in it.
Can you tell me who you got insurance through? I tried a couple of online searches and a few wouldn't insure it as it was not UK build. We have a 17 digit number, so think it must be registered OK.
Glad you love your Altea. We love camping and the boys were not too keen in moving to a caravan, but when they saw the bunks last night they were converted!
Just wanted to say congrats on your new van, coming from a tent ourselves any van is a luxury, ours isn't all singing and dancing but we love it and it's better than a tent.
Enjoy :)
Congratulations on buying your first van! We have a 2006 Adria Altea 542uk. It's our first van and we've had it since last October, so still newbies!
We love our Adria, and having looked at vans for a while, found it difficult to get another van with what we want for a similar price. The bunks are good sizes so will last a growing family.
Have you got anywhere booked yet for a trial run? Hope you have lots of fun!
Picking the van up on Thursday, without stabilizer, so hope we get home OK. Slow and steady should do it. MY husband has towed trailers recently and horse boxes in his youth, but never a caravan!
Plan to give the van a good Vax and clean even though it looks OK, and then have it serviced to make sure the gas is OK. After that we will probabky head up to Blair Athol for a night or two before goingh somewhere at the start of July.
Can't wait. Thanks for the words of encouragement. Just a bit nervous that it is OK as it seems very cheap.
Hi, And Congratulations on your van and the world of being an Adria owner. We have a 2008 Altea 542 UK (from new) and would not part with it for love nor money, its the best thing since sliced bread i have ever bought. And it is very much like Wizzo said above "Ikea on Wheels"
Last year whilst away we had a Caravan with the door on the right pitched next to us, the pitch we had was on the tiny side with approx 6ft grass between us. Luckily they were a really nice couple and we got along, but i could see it being a bit of a problem with two awnings looking in at each other, however life is too short to worry about these things. Enjoy the van.
Hi and may i say you made the right choice. We have an Adria and we love it.
They are so well built I think it will outlast us!
Enjoy your Adria and good luck.
(Did you know that there is an owners club? It is 'Club Adria' and it is run by a couple in Scotland. If you want to have a look go to:
www.clubadria.co.uk.
Well I am stilll hoping to be the rpoud new owner of and Adrai tomorrow, BUT I did a CRIS check today and they are saying the caravan is registered, but is not my type of van. I have contacted the folks I am buying it from and they bought it from a dealer and have the CRIS document with the dealer's stamp on it.
I have been doing some digging and it looks like the Adria Altea was called an Adria Unica until around 2003, so that might be all it is. Hope so anyway! Anyone heard of the Unica, and can back up my theory? CRIS will start an investigation tomorrow morning.
