So does this mean the current tv tuner is only for analogue
no your tv is only a receiver so unless you have means to provide freeview to it,it will not work.as i said if you have one with built in freeview then you do need a box.you can buy a box at £12 now in somewhere like asda.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Plus... On our Freeview TV there are two different tuning options - Digital or Analogue. The ariel needs to point to either the digital signal or the analogue signal. This website lets you type in a postcode and then gives you the strength and direction of all the signals in the area. You can then print it off before you go and then choose. Perhaps buy a compass first though !
I know it sounds really daft, BUT, when I was setting up my Image aerial for the first time I was having shocking results. Until, I discovered from another van that the screw comes out and the aerial lies flat horizontal rather than vertical! Doh! I'm an IT bloke too. Oh the humanity! :-)
we had same probs on sunday with same aerial no signal at all on digital or an,so we turned it so the long aerials pointing up and down ,found a signal straight away, altho hubby has orderd a signal finder for when on a site.(just another gadget he NEEDED).

The link to the site above shows each transmitter, the direction, the strength, whether it's analogue or digital PLUS Horizontal or Vertical ! (H or V) !

can not remember which way round but was told by a tv guy that one way was for a main aerial and the other way was for a sub station.
Shirl250 has mentioned that the web link states whether signal is horizontal or vertically polarised, but the basis is:
All main TV transmitters - horizontal polarity.
Relay transmitters - vertical polarity.
In comparison, there are far more relays than main transmitters as these act as repeaters for their parent/main site.
