The only thing I can say is, if you weigh your nose weight with the 'scale' on the tow ball then the resultant weight will show less than it is, due to the rear suspension compressing - very much like weighing oneself with the scales on carpet

Plus I guess you have all the faffing about reversing the car getting the tow ball and  hitch lined up etc,,,, whereas with the normal ones the car doesn't have to get involved !  Looked like a good idea at first....

????  Surely the downward pressure on the towball will remain the same having soft or had suspension will not make any difference to the pressure on the ball.

Hi, looked at the TLC, read that when at it correct level will give you the true downward load on the tow ball, looking at the TLC could be 3-4 inches high, and exactly level and ballanced, take that from tow ball, and the van will drop by that amount, altering the downward load as van is not sitting perfectly level and ballanced, and all cars suspension vary in the stiffness, can result in nose being lower than level, as said above "scales/carpet" dont see point of the divice, nose wieght guage does same job and cheaper,only my opinion and im sticking to it.

It will give the nose weight as 'felt' by the car which is the important factor as it determines the effect on steering and suspension etc.

This is an electronic 'load cell' as used on wayloadas on tipper trucks. these are electronic sensors fitted to each axle & give a readout as the truck is being loaded. Not to be confused with mechanical scales. If the device is of good quailty, it should be accurate.

When using a wayloada on a tipper truck you can get a false reading if the ground is uneven so the same rules would probably apply to this.

just like mine unless ALL things are set up correct before the weigh.ie level and not nose up or nose down on the van it will not read correctly.like this one from al-ko i believe you need to do calculations with it in use.

Think we will be purchasing one in the new year as it seems a lot easier to use and more accurate than any other device. Don't mind paying the extra for quality and piece of mind.

The reason for the difference in weight when on carpet or hard surface is mostly due to the distortion of the scales,it usually leads to an increase in weight.I wouldn't think the same would apply to a to towball mounted item.

I can't see how it can be accurate. It will measure the weight all right, but.the hitch will be too high by whatever the height of the device is.

We have one, works well. Our only problem is finding level ground to use it before setting out as our drive and street all slope!

Does anyone know to calculate the weight difference between a noseweight reading taken on level ground and one on a slope?

When you are going uphill the noseweight must decrease and downhill it must increase,so I'm thinking there can't be that much difference to  worry  about.

As you have one Jennifer perhaps you could try it both ways and see how much difference it makes.

From my dark distant memory of mechanical engineering I would hazard a guess that a couple of cm's would make next to no difference to the hitchweight. Perhaps someone whose brain is more agile than mine can do the calculations. As the device fits inside the hitch head and over the tow ball I think the actual increase in height would be somewhere in the region of 5 or 6cm
