 hi guys

wonderd if you could help me with my towing figuers and if i am correct please

 max permisible gross vehicle weight --1990 

max permisible towing weight-----3790

 max permisble front axle load 955 max permisible rear axle load 1065 .

 if my calculation is right i think i can tow a van with a mptl of 1300  

 any help would be great  .

also how much weight could i put into the van re tv and bedding so i wont be over loaded.

use 85% of kerb weight of car to be safe.

is the kerb weight the gross vehicle weight--1990  and how do i work it out please might sound a bit dum but want to get it right

look in your handbook it is NOT the gross weight  that is the kerb wieight plus you your mates and all your stuff  

 if you use that as the basis for the 85% principle you will be well over the legal limit and the insurance will be null and void if there is an accident

No. Its the kerb weight as stated in the handbook NOT anything else added in..

1490 x 85% = 1266 kg (MPLM)

Hope this helps

Some are now saying 90% therefore you will be well within that limit

1490 x 90% = 1341 kg (MPLM) and certianly well within the vehicles max towing limit of 3790 (which seems rather a lot, what sort of vehicle is it)

85% is a recommendation and a strong one at that  

 100% is allowable legally  but not recommended      the more experien ced you are   then the higher the percentage  theoretically   but be careful  very careful   the heavier the van the more likely it takes over when ther are winds and gusts etc 

stick to as near 85 if you can  or less                 don't go over 90 if you are new to the job
