I'd just popped on here to let folk know the same because.......

Our tin tent is in storage there and we'd been sitting in the garden having our brekkie watching this plume of black smoke in the distance and wondering what on earth it was! THEN at midday our son-in-law rang us to say that he'd heard about a fire at Cranham Caravans on the radio while he was out and about at work. My hubby immediately shot down there to see what's what but the road into the place was all blocked off. He saw a space just infront of a fire investigation truck on the A127 so nipped in to it and approached one of the chaps who was just getting changed.

This chap didn't even know there was a storage place behind the sales part but told my hubby that it had apparently been the NEW motorhomes along the front including one that somebody was supposed to be picking up today worth........£105 grand! Yikes!!!!!! The chap said they would be handing it's remains to the unfortunate owner in a little box........

BUT having read this post I'm not so sure ours IS fine because where our storage pitch is.....is just the other side of the wall where the workshop is!!!!!!!!!!!!! GULP!

Gawd I'll be like a cat on a hot tin roof until we have confirmation, (seeing with our own eyes once we're allowed access), that Ellie IS ok, even if she'll need a damned good scrub.

As my hubby shot off to check on Ellie, I had thoughts going through my mind like 'oh well, she's insured' but also wondering how the hell we'd be able to get another new tin tent in the same layout before we go on our much needed hols in about 8 weeks time! We had to miss any hols last year courtesy of hubby having his heart attack on his 60th birthday which was also the day before we should have been taking our tin tent to Cornwall!!!!!!! And then of course...he goes and has a kidney tumour and has to have a kidney out! Never rains but it pours so SURELY fate couldn't hand us ANOTHER nasty surprise....could it?????????

But being, (or trying to be), calm and sensible, (so unlike me, the sensible bit),.....I'm SURE it'll all be fine.........got everything possible crossed here including eyes

I seriously hope that nobody else has any damage to theirs if they're in storage there or happened to be in the workshop either. Am awaiting the local news on the tele to see if it's mentioned to give us more of an idea.

Cheers for your best wishes peeps, I wasn't trying to hijack this thread, just wanted to also try and make others aware of the blaze JUST incase they have tin tents stored there too. But your kind thoughts are appreciated.

Mind you.....I'm sitting here having just watched the ITV local news and nowt on that! I even missed some of the Portugal v NKO footy match to try and find out summat more definite about it allHmph, the bloke doing the local news has just said about ALL their news being on their website so I might give that a squiz too....just incase.

But I'm eagerly awaiting the BBC local news at 2.30pm to hopefully find out more! I mean to US this is IMPORTANT peeps

Good news on Ellie....untouched by the blaze thank heavens! Hubby managed to get into the storage site this morning through the security guard who's guarding what's left of the sales side. The lovely well stocked shop has completely gone though so we'll be in for a bit of a trek if we need anything for Ellie from it before we go away in August but as Cranham Caravans have another branch, (not called the same though), we'd just have to traipse over to that instead. Dread to think how much this has cost the place though.

And how spooky is this. We've just had a phone call from our caravan insurersIt was only to tell us that as our Ellie is now 6 years old, (can she realllllly be that old! Well we did get her at the end of that season so in theory she was already one year old albeit she hadn't been anybody else's until we bought her), they no longer offer us the new for old on our policy which is a bit of a bummer especially when she's depreciated by about five grand bless her and she's only been used for.......EIGHT WEEKS in total alllll that time!!!!!!!!!!!! Would have been ten weeks if hubby's heart attack hadn't cancelled last years hols but it's still barely used. So sad. Mind you, it's just aswell that Caravan Guard did ring us because it turns out that they don't have our contents on the policy even though I painstakingly costed every single item we keep inside her, (right down to the cutlery and coathangers), before opening this policy but their records only show the value of Ellie when new and her equipment. Somehow the other bits had fallen through the cracks but thankfully, that's all sorted since today's phone call phew! And it'll now cost us about £80 a year less too, just a shame we can't keep the new for old bit. Bummer that. The woes of getting older eh? Ellie NOT me

So now we can just look forward to giving Ellie a nice wash and brush up before we take her away to Cornwall in about......7 weeks and three days...ish. Cannot wait!!!!!!!

That is good news you must be very relieved. It still musty be alful for all those affected.

re caravan insurance that’s why we switched to Caravan club insurance to carry on getting the new for old as caravan gets older. We were also told that if our house contents would cover the stuff in the caravan we wouldn't need caravan contents, first call to house insurance the women said it was covered but I wasn't convinced and double checked its only certain items that are covered, first info was duff!!!

We used to have Caravan Club insurance with our old, (much loved), tin tent but when we got our new one it was going to cost us a fortune! After lots of searching and advise from various peeps on here, we opted this time for Caravan Guard but sadly as I mentioned we've now lost our new for old. As for needing it to be serviced annually Michael, we only had a three year warranty on Ellie but didn't actually have it serviced for it's second or subsequent years because like most folk with tin tents, my hubby does all the usual maitainence on her and it was once again, down to cost. You'd think that if they give you a three year warranty with a thing, they'd at least cover the cost wouldn't ya

Mind you, I might do some more research about other options available for a six year old tin tent and see what comes up. Not right at this minute though coz I'm busy watching the England v Slovenia match. Thank heaven's for touch typing

If you need any supplies hippy there is B&B Caravans in Wickford (they do 2nd hand here so great for expensive bits) , Camping and general in Canvey annd you also have PJ camping in Collier Row.  Just thought I would let you know of these places in case you hadn't heard of any of them (Sure you probably have) and just in case you need anything before your hols.

I was really sad the other day when hubby came home from work telling me about it, always sad when caravans are involved LOL Glad yours is ok

Apparently ours was the only customer caravan involved in the fire. All other caravans/motorhomes were stock. We've only had our brand new caravan 3 weeks and took it back to Cranhams for some warranty work (faults). Only used it 3 weekends and were so devastated at the news. We didn't hear until Tuesday. We were allowed to go there at 4pm that day to retrieve our personal belongings from the caravan (we were meant to collect it Friday and go on holiday so it had a lot in it). The staff at Cranhams were very helpful, especially Jackie, who did so much for us and found other members of staff to assist in moving all our stuff to our car (we weren't allowed to drive in there). The damage to our Swift Conqueror 645 is a hole right through the side. This was caused by gas cylinders exploding and it was a piece of the valve that went through our van and landed our bed. Thankfully it didn't all go up in smoke but it's a very sad sight. We now await the insurance claim outcome and very much hope they don't expect us to accept a repaired caravan that's only 3 weeks old and cost £20,659. The accessory shop was also involved (not the workshop). There is nothing left of the accessory shop & all caravans around it were damaged. Some motorhomes were damaged too.Cranhams are updating the situation on their website. They are closed for a few days at least.

Forgot to mention we are insured with the Caravan Club and do have New for Old but not sure what will happen in our case. We are waiting to hear from the assessor and just pray that he wont say it can be repaired - it just would not be acceptable as the whole side would have to be replaced (interior also). Anyway if the insurance does give us new for old we then have the task of finding the same caravan - it wasn't easy in the first place and there are very few available - and Summer's going :-( We are actually booked into Caravan Club sites every weekend through to October and also have a week booked - just had to cancel next week and the weekend of course.
