We have had two caravans now with removable carpets and we have never used them in either van so am beginning to wonder why manufacturers bother. Carpets are all rolled up and taking up valuable storage space at home. A vinyl floor is so much easier to keep clean and if we want a bit of warmth in the chillier months we lay down a cheap, washable rug.
I don't understand why people don't use the carpet in the winter months .
Probably to keep the original clean for if they sell the van on . So the only person who benefits is the person the van gets sold on to.
What's the point of that ?
I would use the carpet myself, and if selling on at a later date, either clean the carpet or get another one made.

I use the carpet all the time, in fact about to bring it home to give a good vacukme and clean it it will go straight back in the van!

The starting point should be that all (UK) caravans used to have fixed carpets which were a nightmare. The move to removable ones was a good step forward. We leave ours in place and they are only removed when we clean the floor. What we do have is a few extra mats to save the original carpets getting worn or dirty. A lot of Continental vans don't come with carpets so no reason why you should use them, however don't dispose of them as when you come to sell or trade in your van the new owners might not feel the same way as you!
We don't use ours, just removable cotton rugs that are lighter and can be washed easily. But that’s down to not having wanted carpets and they came with the caravan and the fact we try to reduce weight!
When we bought our van new we were paranoid about the drop in carpets and had some plastic runners laid over it. We then questioned ourselves why had we bothered paying £13k for the thing if we were not going to enjoy it ourselves.
Carpet feels nicer under foot than lino and when we come to change it, a new set of mats will set me back under £100.
We just take ours out and give them a vax once a year. We also have a spare set in cream. They came with the van, and they came straight out. Actually go with the colour scheme a lot better than the terracota standard ones, but 2 kids and a dog - no way thats going to happen!

? Mr PP has just gone and bought another business, holiday?...we should be so lucky!
We would never consider using the caravan without the carpets in, we hate bare floors. People say that bare floors are easier to keep clean but we would beg to differ, plished floors need regular wiping down and then as soon as that has been done along comes the dog/ the wife/ the husband/ grandchildren or whoever and you get another set of muddy footprints across the floor and you start again.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
we take our shoes off in the awning and put slippers or flip flops on when in the van, why would anyone walk into there van in muddy shoes etc ???? you would'nt do it at home so why do it in your van?????.

I smile besause I have'nt a clue whats going on... appreciate everything in life especially your friends...
We use ours all the time except for the one in the bathroom which I have removed and replaced with a couple of bath mats. Everything gets hoovered/washed when we get back from wherever... !
Ours stay in the caravan, don't like the idea of a bare floor at home so why in the van? We have a bath mat, but that is on top of the carpet. I brush the carpets regularly as OH is a prime bringer-in of grass even when he takes his shoes off at the door, and also hoover them.
i took ours out as soon as we got it.i found it dangerous.it was sliding about.i leaned over the fixed bed to get to a top locker and my feet just slid with the carpet.i used it as a template for gel backed carpet and put that in.i can take that out in the back garden and scrub it and hose it off when it gets muddy.our dogs dont wipe their feet.the original carpet lives in the shed until we sell the van.
