I see from the latest mag from Camping and Caravanning Club that Kwikfit will provide Tyron bands. Anyone used them i.e. Kwikfit. Can these be fitted to existing wheels/tyres and approx how much per wheel.
Used Kwikfit but not to supply Tyrons and satisfied as they price matched saving a longer trip.
Tyrons can be retro fitted; however ring the supplier with your wheel rim size details and "J" number as they might need to get your particular size in.
Cost was all over the place two years ago when I got the last set; depends on the overall deal etc. The guide price was then £120 a pair fitted but if purchased with new tyres or even a new van it can be less.
On an earlier van I used HiQ and got a sharp deal with new tyres.
[I have also found that non Tyron dealers tend to surcharge a fee of £10 per wheel extra on punctures /tyre changes where the bands are fitted.]

Hi dwares, two fitted on my van cost £176.50. Contact Tyron who put you onto Kwickfit and they come round to wherever the van is to fit them. As I had my van wheels in the Garage at the time (winter wheels on the van in storage) they fitted them in the drive. Kwickfit ask for details of the tyre and size etc so that they can order the correct size bands. No problems at all with Kwikfit.
You can sign up for Tyron Assist on line (whether you have bands or not) which costs £95 for three years cover. Under the scheme if you need a new tyre, they will come out, within two hours of a call (is the promise), wherever you are, and bring a replacement tyre and fit it. You only pay for the tyre. Saves you the hassle of jacking up etc and then going off to look for a tyre, if you are happy to wait. In the alternative you can change your own tyre, carry on to your destination and then call them out to fit the new tyre with the bands on. Green Flag does not do replacement tyres on a call out. The £95 covers both car and van. At least you know that you are getting an engineer who knows about Tyron Bands.

On a slightly different note, my local ATS change the tyres, on Tyron Band fitted tyres, and TBH, they were cheap, so worth calling around your local tyre fitters if just replacing the tyres, to get a quote.
I'm no tyre expert, but one caravan retailer advised me against having them fitting. They said that tyron bands were designed for older wheels - apparently the way newer wheels are constructed makes them unneccessary. I don't know the details, but I'll come back a bit later to read the comments from those who know better than I.

The argument is that new rims are called "safety rims" to better secure the bead from rolling off. Its this rolling off of the bead that Tyrons eliminate and the tyre leaving the rim can cause safety issues and usually wipe-out the wheel arch.
My view is that as the tyre can still come off the safety rim [have to to fit tyres etc] then Tyrons are in that respect still an asset.
The Tyrons dont save the wheel arch from flailing tread/wire etc but we have had three blow-outs all with Tyrons and had no consequential damage or drama so I still feel happier even with new rims to have them.
As an observation they do seem to cause the wheel balancing man to need to use a lot of extra lead.
Well the boys in blue use them on their new wheels. Ever seen an old Police car?
Anyway, hope I never find out how good they are!!!!!

PS.....may not be the bands but the air pressure in the wheels stays at the right level longer since I had them fitted.

They ought have changed the valve when they refitted the tyre; I suspect this is why the air pressure holds better. Nothing about the Tyron Band can effect the pressure holding ability.
You'll get lots of differing opinions on tyre fitters no matter who they work for. They all tend to do the rounds & the bad ones keep moving. I had a chap fitting some tyres on my lorry the other day & he alone would destroy my faith in the depot I've used for years. Bad apple in the Barrel sort of thing.
You'll also get differing opinions on whether or not anyone should fit tyron bands. I feel Tyrons are well worth having I had a quote at the NEC caravan show. I was told they'd honour the price of £145-00 & we should quote NEC 2010. Kwik-Fit mobile were the ones to fit them at that price. I'll be calling them shortly to get our fitted, I hope they hounour the price but I have left it a bit since the show.
I know it shouldn't be the bands but the tyres were brand new from the manufacturers when delivered with the van. I anticipate that the manufacturer would get it right.....maybe not. Kwikfit must have done a proper job.

My own feeling is that the first thing to look at is the tyres themselves. A decent set of C rated tyres will reduce the need for Tyron Bands. Most caravan tyres are about as tough as the average bicycle tyre. Thin walls which allow the caravan to sway, little tread so easily punctured. Some caravan manufacturers run them over their rated spec because they say they will only be going at a low speed.
Its amazing how often someone on this forum admits to having a blowout on their van, yet how many of us have had a blowout on our car?
