Hi, i have just looked on a caravan park website (Yew tree, nr Canterbury) which states it provides 10 amp electricity. Does this mean i plug my electrics in as normal? Could someone explain what this means?

 hi it means you can use your electric items up to 10 amps when using 230 hook up

the more items you use the more amps are used if you go above 10 amps it will trip the electrics then you will have to reset

10 amps indicates how much you can use at once. 10 amps is a good supply and will run pretty much everything except a domestic microwave. It is not enough to run everything at once though. for example, if you use a domestic electric kettle and a heater together it may trip out.

Water heaters, room heaters, hair dryers, kettles use a lot so adopt the "one off one on" rule and steer clear of microwaves.

If it is overloaded and trips out it is only a switch to reset to make it work again.

This chart shows how many watts or amps normal appliances may use. It is only a guide and power ratings do vary. Add up the wattage or amps for each of your own appliances in use at any one time. The total should not exceed 2,300 watts or 10 amps. If you are hooked up to a 16 amp connection the wattage rises to 3,680. These are only average figures. More accurate power figures for wattage or amperage are marked on the appliance itself. Please note that small microwaves are often described as 600 or 750 watt. This is the power they require to run – starting power can be as much as twice the stated amperage.

So, at night just switch the microwave on for your horlicks, toaster for the crumpets  snuggle up to the heater (on electric) and watch everyones’ lights go out..Night Night everyone.

I have small traveling iron.  Fill with water and spoon full salt and off it goes.....NO ELECTRIC required.....steams out creases.

depending on how much you want to push it, in reality, you can get more thn your 10A from a 10A hook up, a 10A breaker can supply more than that for quite a long time before it trips,

put it this way, alot of people use a 3Kw kettle in a caravan, I have done, and the breaker for the sockets in a van is usually 10A, how many times has it tripped whislt doing this?? never.

I have only tripped the breaker in my van once, and it took 61/2 hrs to do so, when I used a 3Kw fan heater and a 500W oilfilled at the same time (it was VERY cold outside) so thats a 1.2Kw overload on the breaker before it tripped

ps, dont reccomend that amount of overload on a circuit, I hadnt realised the wife had turned up the fan heater to full...just used to illustrate that the trip point of a breaker is acutally more tha its rating.

A 10 amp MCB may take as long as two and a half hours to trip at 12.5 amps,all protective devices will carry overload currents for a significant time before operating.
The regs only require a 30Amp mcb to operate within one hour when carrying 40Amps.
